1. What CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA is and what it is used for

This medicinal product contains the active substance carbocisteine and belongs to a group of medicines called mucolytics, which work by liquefying mucus in the respiratory tract, thereby facilitating its elimination.
CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA is indicated to facilitate the elimination of mucus (mucolytic) in acute and chronic respiratory tract diseases.

2. What you need to know before taking CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA

Do not take CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA

  • if you are allergic to carbocisteine or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
  • if you suffer from a stomach or intestinal condition called gastroduodenal ulcer;
  • if you are pregnant or breastfeeding (See section “Pregnancy and breastfeeding”);
  • if the person taking this medicine is a child under 11 years of age.

Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA.
There are no known cases of reduced effectiveness of the medicine after prolonged treatment or dependence (need to keep taking the medicine) with the use of CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA.
Caution is recommended in elderly patients, asthmatic patients with a history of severe respiratory problems, debilitated patients, as well as in those with a history of gastroduodenal ulcers or in those taking medicines known to cause gastrointestinal bleeding. You must stop treatment with carbocisteine if gastrointestinal bleeding occurs.
This medicine must not be used concomitantly with cough suppressants and/or medicines that inhibit bronchial secretion.
This medicine does not affect body weight, so it can be taken if you are on a low-calorie diet or if you have diabetes.
Children
CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA must not be taken by children under 11 years of age (see section “Do not take CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA”).

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines.
No disturbances due to interactions with medicines used to treat diseases of the upper and lower respiratory tract are known.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding, consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.
Pregnancy
You must not take CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA during pregnancy.
Breastfeeding
The use of CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA is not recommended if you are breastfeeding, because it is unknown whether this medicine passes into breast milk.
Driving and using machines
There is no available information to determine the effect of this medicine on the ability to drive vehicles and use machinery.
CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA contains aspartame
This medicine contains 30 mg of aspartame per sachet, equivalent to 6 mg/g. Aspartame is a source of phenylalanine. It may be harmful if you have phenylketonuria, a rare genetic disorder that causes phenylalanine to accumulate because the body cannot properly eliminate it.

3. How to take CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA

Take this medicine exactly as stated in this leaflet or as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. If you have any doubts, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
The recommended dose for adults is 1 sachet per day, unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Your doctor will determine the duration of treatment and may decide to adjust the required dose and frequency of administration.
Instructions for use: Dissolve the contents of one sachet in about half a glass of water and mix well.
Do not mix CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA with other products.
If you take more CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA than you should
In case of overdose, symptoms such as headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain (gastralgia), skin irritations (cutaneous reactions), and altered sensory perceptions (sensory system disturbances) may occur.
If you or someone else has accidentally taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or go to the nearest hospital.
If you forget to take CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA
Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.
If you have any doubts about how to use this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

4. Possible adverse reactions

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause adverse reactions, although not everybody will experience them.
Contact your doctor if you experience any of the following adverse reactions:

  • Skin irritations and skin disorders (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, bullous dermatitis, erythema multiforme, toxic skin eruption, skin rash, urticaria, erythema, dermatitis), possibly with spots, blisters or vesicles (exanthema, bullous/exanthematous erythema), itching, swelling due to fluid accumulation around the mouth and eyes, possibly causing breathing difficulties (angioedema) (in such cases, discontinue treatment and consult your doctor to establish appropriate therapy);
  • Abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, gastrointestinal bleeding (in such cases, discontinue treatment and consult your doctor to establish appropriate therapy);
  • Dizziness;
  • Flushing;
  • Breathing difficulties (dyspnoea).

Store below 30°C.
Do not dispose of any medicine via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of
medicines no longer in use. This will help protect the environment.

This medicinal product contains the active substance carbocisteine and belongs to a group of medicines called mucolytics, which work by liquefying mucus in the respiratory tract, thus facilitating its elimination.
CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA is indicated to facilitate mucus elimination (mucolytic effect) in acute and chronic respiratory diseases.

2. What you need to know before taking CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA

Do not take CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA

  • if you are allergic to carbocisteine or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
  • if you have a stomach or intestinal condition called gastroduodenal ulcer;
  • if you are pregnant or breastfeeding (See section “Pregnancy and breastfeeding”);
  • if the person taking this medicine is a child under 11 years of age.

CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA contains sucrose
If your doctor has diagnosed you with an intolerance to certain sugars, contact him before taking this medicine.
This medicine contains 6 g of sucrose (sugar) per 15 ml dose. This should be taken into consideration in patients with diabetes mellitus. In addition, if you take the medicine for two or more weeks, it may be harmful to the teeth.
CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA contains methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate
It may cause allergic reactions (including delayed reactions).
CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA contains ethanol
This medicine contains 96 mg of alcohol (ethanol) in each dose (15 ml). The amount in 15 ml of this medicine is equivalent to less than 3 ml of beer or 1 ml of wine.
The small amount of alcohol in this medicine will not produce significant effects.

3. How to take CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA

Take this medicine exactly as stated in this leaflet or as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. If you have any doubts, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
The recommended dose for adults is 15 ml, 2–3 times daily.
Use in children over 5 years of age
The recommended dose is 5 ml, 2–3 times daily.
Use in children from 2 to 5 years of age
The recommended dose is 2.5 ml, 2–3 times daily.
Your doctor will determine the duration of treatment and may decide to adjust the required dose and frequency of administration.
If you take more CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA than you should

5. How to store CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA

This medicine does not require any special storage conditions.
The product should be used within 15 days after first opening the bottle. Any remaining product should be discarded.
Do not dispose of any medicine via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer used. This will help protect the environment.

Pregnancy
You must not take CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA during pregnancy.
Breastfeeding
Use of CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA is not recommended while breastfeeding, as it is unknown whether this medicine passes into breast milk.
Driving and using machines
There are no available data to determine the effect of this medicine on the ability to drive vehicles and operate machinery.
CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA contains sucrose
If your doctor has diagnosed you with an intolerance to certain sugars, contact him/her before taking this medicine.
In addition, if you take this medicine for two or more weeks, it may be harmful to your teeth.
CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA contains methyl parahydroxybenzoate
It may cause allergic reactions (including delayed reactions).
CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA contains ethanol
This medicine contains 96 mg of alcohol (ethanol) in each dose (10 ml).
The amount in 10 ml of this medicine is equivalent to less than 3 ml of beer or 1 ml of wine.
The small amount of alcohol in this medicine will not produce significant effects.

3. How to take CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA

Take this medicine exactly as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. If you have
any doubts, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
The recommended dose for adults is 1 single-dose container per day, unless otherwise indicated by your
doctor. Your doctor will determine the duration of treatment and may decide to adjust the required dose and frequency of administration.
If you take more CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA than you should
In case of overdose, symptoms such as headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain
(gastralgia), skin irritations (cutaneous reactions), and altered sensory perceptions (sensory system disturbances) may occur.
In the event of accidental ingestion or overdose of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or go to the nearest hospital.
If you forget to take CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA
Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.
If you have any doubts about how to use this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody will experience them.
Contact your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • Skin irritations and skin disorders: (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, bullous dermatitis, erythema multiforme, toxic skin rash, skin rash, urticaria, erythema, dermatitis), possibly with spots, blisters or bullae (rash, bullous rash/erythema), itching, swelling due to fluid accumulation around the mouth and eyes, possibly with breathing difficulties (angioedema) (in such cases, discontinue treatment and consult your doctor to establish appropriate therapy);
  • Abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, gastrointestinal bleeding (in such cases, discontinue treatment and consult your doctor to establish appropriate therapy);
  • Dizziness;
  • Flushing;
  • Difficulty breathing (dyspnoea).

5. How to store CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the packaging after "Exp".
The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
This medicine does not require any special storage conditions.
Do not dispose of any medicine via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of
medicines you no longer use. This will help protect the environment.

What CARBOCISTEINA IPSO PHARMA contains

  • The active substance is carbocisteine lysine salt monohydrate: one 10 ml single-dose container of syrup contains 2.7 g of carbocisteine lysine salt.
  • The other components are: ethanol (96%), sucrose, strawberry flavour, vanilla flavour, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, purified water.
