1. What Pecto Drill syrup is and what it is used for

Pecto Drill contains carbocisteine as the active substance, which affects the composition of bronchial secretions. Carbocisteine makes the mucus less viscous and more fluid, thus facilitating its removal from the respiratory tract during coughing (so-called mucolytic action).
This medicine is used for symptomatic treatment of respiratory diseases associated with excessive production of thick and sticky mucus.
Pecto Drill is indicated for use in adults, adolescents, and children above 2 years of age.

2. Information before using Pecto Drill syrup

When not to use Pecto Drill syrup

if the patient is allergic to carbocysteine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
if the patient currently has active peptic ulcer disease;
in breastfeeding women;
in children under 2 years of age.

Warnings and precautions
Before starting treatment with Pecto Drill syrup, consult a doctor, as special caution is required when using Pecto Drill:

if the patient has loose and potentially infected mucus and phlegm (manifested by yellow sputum), fever;
if the patient suffers from chronic bronchial or lung disease;
if the patient has previously had stomach or duodenal ulcers;
if the doctor has informed the patient about intolerance to certain sugars;
do not use simultaneously with antitussive medicines and (or) medicines reducing bronchial mucus secretion. The cough reflex is a natural protective mechanism of the lungs, and should not be suppressed. This medicine should be used with an unimpeded cough reflex to facilitate the removal of secretions;
do not use if the patient has severe respiratory insufficiency, as this may lead to airway obstruction.

Pecto Drill syrup and other medicines
Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines currently used, recently used, or planned to be used.
During treatment with Pecto Drill syrup, do not use other medicines containing carbocysteine (to avoid exceeding the maximum dose), antitussive medicines, or medicines reducing bronchial secretion.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility
The use of this medicine is not recommended in pregnant women.
This medicine is contraindicated during breastfeeding (see "When not to use Pecto Drill syrup").
If the patient is pregnant, breastfeeding, suspects she may be pregnant, or is planning to have a baby, she should consult a doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.

Driving and operating machinery
Pecto Drill syrup has no effect or has negligible effect on the ability to drive vehicles and operate machinery.

Pecto Drill syrup contains:

methyl parahydroxybenzoate, which may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed type);
6 g of sucrose in 15 ml of syrup. This should be taken into account in patients with diabetes. If the patient has previously been diagnosed with intolerance to certain sugars, he or she should consult a doctor before taking this medicine;
0.1 g of sodium (a main component of table salt) in 15 ml of syrup. This corresponds to 5% of the maximum recommended daily dietary intake of sodium for an adult.

3. How to use Pecto Drill syrup

This medicine should always be used as directed by a physician. If in doubt, consult a doctor or pharmacist.
15 ml of syrup contains 750 mg of carbocysteine.
A measuring device is included in the packaging, allowing accurate measurement of the required volume of syrup.

Dosage
Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older:
The recommended dose is 15 ml of syrup, initially 3 times daily (3 x 15 ml). Fill the measuring device up to the 15 ml mark.
After the mucolytic (mucus-thinning) effect has been achieved, the dosage may be reduced to 10 ml of syrup, 3 times daily (3 x 10 ml). In this case, fill the measuring device up to the 10 ml mark.
The maximum daily dose is 45 ml of syrup (3 x 15 ml).

Use in children:

Children aged 6 to 12 years: the recommended dose is 5 ml of syrup 3 times daily (fill the measuring device up to the 5 ml mark);
Children aged 2 to 5 years: the recommended dose is 2.5 ml to 5 ml of syrup 2 times daily (fill the measuring device up to the 2.5 ml or 5 ml mark, as appropriate);
Children under 2 years: the syrup is contraindicated in children aged 2 years or younger.

It is recommended that the child drinks water after taking the syrup.
Do not use the medicine before bedtime.

Route and method of administration
This medicine is for oral use.
Shake the bottle well before use.
After each use, wash the measuring device with water and leave it to dry. Store the bottle and measuring device together in the original carton, in a safe place out of reach of children, until the next use.

Duration of treatment
Treatment should be limited to five days. If symptoms persist after this time, consult a doctor.
Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.
After taking the syrup, do not suppress the cough reflex. This will help remove mucus and phlegm from the lungs.
If you feel the medicine's effect is too strong or too weak, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Overdose of Pecto Drill syrup
If more Pecto Drill syrup has been taken than recommended, stop taking the medicine immediately and contact a doctor or pharmacist without delay.
Symptoms of overdose may include gastrointestinal disturbances (such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and abdominal pain).

Missed dose of Pecto Drill syrup
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible, unless it is almost time for the next dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule.
Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.

4. Possible adverse reactions

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause adverse reactions, although not everyone will experience them.
The following adverse reactions may occur at an unknown frequency (it is not possible to estimate frequency
based on available data):

Gastrointestinal disorders: upper abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea;
Nervous system disorders: headache;
Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders: allergic reactions: skin redness (erythematous rash), itching, urticaria, angioedema (rapid swelling of the skin or mucous membranes, most commonly of the face or throat, which may cause difficulty in breathing and swallowing), and circular areas with red-violet skin reaction recurring in the same location upon re-administration of the medicine (drug eruption).

If any of these symptoms occur, consult a doctor, who may recommend reducing the dose or discontinuing the medicine.
Reporting of adverse reactions
If any adverse reactions occur, including any not listed in this leaflet, inform your doctor or pharmacist. 5. How to store Pecto Drill syrup

Keep this medicine out of sight and reach of children.
Store below 25°C.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the carton and on the bottle. The expiry date refers to the last day of the stated month.
Medicines must not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. This will help protect the environment.

6. Contents of the packaging and other information

What Pecto Drill syrup contains
The active substance is carbocysteine. 15 ml (1 measuring spoon) of syrup contains 750 mg of carbocysteine.
The other ingredients are: sucrose solution, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, caramel flavour, sodium
hydroxide, purified water.
What Pecto Drill syrup looks like and contents of the pack
This medicine is a yellow to light brown, transparent syrup with a caramel smell and sweet taste.
Pack: bottle containing 200 ml of syrup, in a cardboard box. A 15 ml measuring spoon is included in the pack.
