1. What PASPAT is and what it is used for

What is PASPAT?
PASPAT contains inactivated bacteria that stimulate the body to produce antibodies (proteins that protect it
against germs causing infectious diseases).
PASPAT is used for the prophylaxis of recurrent respiratory tract infections in adults.
PASPAT is used for the prophylaxis of recurrent upper airway infections in children from 4 years of age.
Please consult your doctor if you/your child do not feel better or feel worse.

2. What you should know before taking/giving PASPAT to the child

Do not take/give PASPAT to the child

  • if you or your child are allergic to the active substances or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
  • if you or your child have a fever. In such cases, treatment should be postponed;
  • if you are pregnant;
  • if you or your child suffer from autoimmune diseases (diseases of the immune system that cause it to react against the body's own organs and tissues);
  • if you or your child currently have intestinal infections.

Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking/giving PASPAT to the child:

  • If you or your child have a fever, especially at the beginning of treatment: stop PASPAT treatment. You may develop a high fever exceeding 39°C, occurring in isolation and without known causes; this type of fever must be differentiated from the fever associated with the underlying disease, based on laryngeal, nasal, or otological conditions. In such cases, treatment must be suspended and not resumed (see section 4 "Possible side effects"). Your doctor will explain the difference between this fever and the fever caused by the infections you/the child frequently suffer from.
  • If you/the child suffer from or are predisposed to asthma. If an asthma attack occurs, discontinue PASPAT treatment.
  • If you/the child are taking another immunostimulant. Do not take/give PASPAT as well.
  • If you/the child experience an allergic reaction. Immediately stop taking PASPAT (adult/child formulation) and consult your doctor (see section 4 "Possible side effects").

PASPAT cannot replace antibiotic treatment or vaccination.
The use of PASPAT for the prevention of pneumonia is not recommended, as there are no clinical study data available demonstrating such an effect.
