1. What Levofloxacina Aurobindo is and what it is used for
The name of the medicine is Levofloxacina Aurobindo tablets. Levofloxacina Aurobindo tablets contain an active substance called levofloxacin, which belongs to a group of medicines known as antibiotics. Levofloxacin is a quinolone antibiotic. It works by killing the bacteria that cause infections in your body.
Levofloxacina Aurobindo tablets can be used to treat the following infections:
- of the sinuses
- of the lungs, in people with long-term respiratory problems or pneumonia
- of the urinary tract, including the kidneys or bladder
- of the prostate, where there is a long-lasting infection
- of the skin and subcutaneous tissues, including muscles. These are sometimes referred to as 'soft tissues'
In certain specific situations, Levofloxacina Aurobindo tablets may be used to reduce the risk of developing or worsening a lung disease called anthrax after exposure to the bacteria that cause anthrax.
2. What you should know before taking Levofloxacina Aurobindo
Do not take this medicine:
- if you are allergic to levofloxacin, to any other quinolone antibiotic such as moxifloxacin, ciprofloxacin or ofloxacin, or to any of the excipients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
- Signs of an allergic reaction include: rash, difficulty breathing or swallowing, swelling of the lips, face, throat or tongue.
- if you have had epilepsy.
- if you have had tendon problems such as tendonitis related to treatment with a quinolone antibiotic. A tendon is the cord that connects muscle to bone.
- if you are a child or growing adolescent.
- if you are pregnant, could become pregnant, or think you may be pregnant.
- if you are breastfeeding.
Do not take this medicine if any of the above conditions apply to you. If you are unsure, consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking Levofloxacina Aurobindo.
Warnings and precautions
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if:
- you are 60 years of age or older.

- you are diabetic.
- you have liver problems.
- you have myasthenia gravis.
If you are unsure whether any of the conditions listed above apply to you, consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking Levofloxacina Aurobindo.
Other medicines and Levofloxacina Aurobindo
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines. This is because Levofloxacina Aurobindo may affect how some other medicines work. Some medicines can also affect how Levofloxacina Aurobindo works.
In particular, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines. These may increase the risk of side effects when taken with Levofloxacina Aurobindo:
- Corticosteroids, sometimes called steroids – used for inflammation. You may be more likely to experience inflammation and/or rupture of tendons.
- Warfarin – used to thin the blood. You may be more likely to experience bleeding. Your doctor may need to perform regular blood tests to monitor how well your blood clots.
- Theophylline – used for breathing problems. You may be more likely to have seizures when taken with Levofloxacina Aurobindo.
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) – used for pain and inflammation, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, fenbufen, ketoprofen and indomethacin. You may be more likely to have seizures when taken with Levofloxacina Aurobindo.
- Cyclosporine – used after organ transplants. You may be more likely to experience side effects from cyclosporine.
- Medicines known to affect heart rhythm. These include medicines used for abnormal heart rhythm (antiarrhythmics such as quinidine, hydroquinidine, disopyramide, sotalol, dofetilide, ibutilide and amiodarone), for depression (tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline and imipramine), for psychiatric disorders (antipsychotics), and for bacterial infections ('macrolide antibiotics' such as erythromycin, azithromycin and clarithromycin).
- Probenecid – used for gout, and cimetidine – used for ulcers and heartburn. Special care is needed when taking any of these medicines with Levofloxacina Aurobindo. If you have kidney problems, your doctor may decide to prescribe a lower dose.
Do not take the following medicines at the same time as Levofloxacina Aurobindo tablets. This is because they may affect how Levofloxacina Aurobindo tablets work:
- Iron tablets (for anaemia), zinc supplements, or antacids containing magnesium or aluminium (for acidity or heartburn), didanosine or sucralfate (for stomach ulcers). See section 3 "If you are already taking iron tablets, zinc supplements, antacids, didanosine or sucralfate" below.
Urine tests for opiates
In people taking Levofloxacina Aurobindo, urine tests may show 'false positive' results for strong painkillers called 'opiates'. If your doctor has prescribed a urine test, inform them that you are taking Levofloxacina Aurobindo.
Tuberculosis testing
This medicine may cause 'false negative' results for certain laboratory tests used to detect bacteria causing tuberculosis.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility
If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, are planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Do not take this medicine if:
- you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to become pregnant.
- you are breastfeeding or intend to breastfeed.
Driving and using machines
After taking this medicine, you may experience side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, vertigo or changes in vision. Some of these side effects may affect your ability to concentrate and your reaction speed. If this occurs, do not drive or perform any activity requiring a high level of attention.

- Make sure to use high-protection sunscreen creams.
- Always wear a hat and clothing covering arms and legs.
- Avoid sunbeds.
If you are already taking iron tablets, zinc supplements, antacids, didanosine, or sucralfate
