1. What EZETIMIBE DOC Generici is and what it is used for
EZETIMIBE DOC Generici is a medicine used to reduce elevated cholesterol levels.
EZETIMIBE DOC Generici lowers total cholesterol, "bad" cholesterol (LDL cholesterol), and fats known as triglycerides in the blood. Additionally, EZETIMIBE DOC Generici increases levels of "good" cholesterol (HDL cholesterol).
EZETIMIBE DOC Generici works by reducing cholesterol absorption in the intestine.
The cholesterol-lowering effect of EZETIMIBE DOC Generici adds to that provided by statins, a group of medicines that reduce cholesterol produced by the body.
Cholesterol is one of several fatty substances found in the bloodstream. Total cholesterol consists mainly of LDL cholesterol and HDL cholesterol.
LDL cholesterol is often called "bad" cholesterol because it can accumulate in the walls of arteries, forming plaques. Over time, this plaque buildup can lead to narrowing of the arteries. This narrowing can slow down or block blood flow to vital organs such as the heart and brain. Such blockage of blood flow may cause a heart attack or stroke.
HDL cholesterol is often called "good" cholesterol because it helps prevent "bad" cholesterol from accumulating in the arteries and protects against heart disease.
Triglycerides are another type of fat present in the blood that may increase the risk of heart disease.
It is used for patients who cannot control their cholesterol levels with diet alone. You must follow a cholesterol-lowering diet while taking this medicine.
EZETIMIBE DOC Generici is used in addition to diet if you have:

  • elevated blood cholesterol levels (primary hypercholesterolemia [heterozygous familial and non-familial]) in combination with a statin when cholesterol is not adequately controlled with a statin alone, or as monotherapy when treatment with statins is not appropriate or not tolerated
  • an inherited disease (homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia) that increases blood cholesterol levels. You will also be prescribed a statin, and you may be given additional treatment
  • an inherited disease (homozygous sitosterolemia, also known as phytosterolemia) that increases levels of plant sterols in the blood

If you have had a heart attack, EZETIMIBE DOC Generici, in combination with cholesterol-lowering medicines called statins, reduces the risk of heart attack, stroke, surgical procedures to improve blood flow, or hospitalization due to chest pain.
EZETIMIBE DOC Generici does not help with weight loss.

2. What you need to know before taking EZETIMIBE DOC Generici

If you are taking EZETIMIBE DOC Generici with a statin, please read the package leaflet of that
