1. What Dr. Manceau Syrup is and what it is used for
DR. MANCEAU SYRUP is an oral laxative.
DR. MANCEAU SYRUP is indicated for the short-term treatment of occasional constipation in adults, adolescents, and children over 12 years of age.
2. Before taking Dr. Manceau Syrup
Do not take DR. MANCEAU SYRUP:
- If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to senna or to any of the other components.
- If you have:
- Undiagnosed abdominal pain
- Colic
- Nausea
- Other symptoms suggestive of appendicitis
- Intestinal obstruction and stenosis
- Intestinal atony
- Organic inflammatory bowel disorders (ulcerative rectocolitis, Crohn's disease)
- Abdominal pain syndromes of undetermined cause
- Water and electrolyte metabolic disorders
- Do not use in patients with:
- Fructose intolerance
- Glucose/galactose malabsorption syndrome
- Sucrase-isomaltase deficiency
- Children under 12 years of age.
Take special care with Dr. Manceau Syrup:
This medicine contains sucrose. Patients with hereditary fructose intolerance, glucose or galactose malabsorption, or sucrase-isomaltase deficiency must not take this medicine.
This product contains 768 mg of sucrose per ml of syrup, which should be taken into account by diabetic patients.
Patients taking cardiac glycosides, antiarrhythmic drugs, drugs that prolong the QT interval, diuretics, adrenocorticoids, or licorice root, must consult their physician before taking this medicine concomitantly.
Prolonged use of stimulant laxatives beyond the recommended duration may worsen constipation. This preparation should only be used when therapeutic effect has not been achieved through dietary changes or with bulk-forming laxatives.
Use in elderly patients with incontinence
Frequent diaper changes are recommended to avoid prolonged skin contact with feces in elderly patients with incontinence who are taking this medicine.
Use of other medicines
Cardiac glycosides may have their effect potentiated.
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, or have recently taken, any other medicines—even those obtained without a prescription.
Pregnancy
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using any medicine.
As a general precaution, and due to the lack of data regarding its use during pregnancy and lactation, its use is not recommended in these situations.
Important for women: If you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant, consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine. Taking medicines during pregnancy can be dangerous for the embryo or fetus and should be monitored by your doctor. |
Breast-feeding
Women who are breast-feeding should consult their doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine, as sennosides pass into breast milk, although in small amounts.
Driving and use of machines
No effects affecting the ability to drive vehicles or operate machinery have been reported.
Important information about some ingredients of Dr. Manceau Syrup
This medicine contains 768 mg of sucrose per ml of syrup. If your doctor has informed you that you have an intolerance to certain sugars, consult him before taking this medicine.
3. How to take Dr. Manceau's Syrup
Follow these instructions unless your doctor has given you different ones.
Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have any doubts.
The medicine is taken orally.
The usual dose is:
Adults, adolescents and children over 12 years of age: 5 ml, 1 to 3 times daily, as needed. The dose should be individualized and the minimum necessary to achieve bowel movement.
The recommended duration of treatment is a maximum of 6 days. In general, it is sufficient to take the medicine two or three times per week during treatment.
The recommended maximum daily dose of hydroxyanthracene derivatives is 30 mg. One 5 ml spoonful corresponds to 10 mg of hydroxyanthracene heterosides expressed as sennosides B.
It is advisable to take the medicine at night, before going to bed. The laxative effect occurs after approximately 8–12 hours.
In elderly patients, a lower dose may be required due to increased sensitivity to the effects of the medicine.
Use in children: This medicine is not recommended for children under 12 years of age, unless prescribed by a doctor.
If you take more DR. MANCEAU'S SYRUP than you should:
If you have taken more DR. MANCEAU'S SYRUP than you should have, consult your doctor or pharmacist, or call the Toxicology Information Service at telephone number 915620420, indicating the medicine and the amount ingested.
In case of accidental overdose, diarrhea with electrolyte loss, as well as cramps and general weakness may occur. The patient should contact their doctor.
If you forget to take DR. MANCEAU'S SYRUP:
Do not take a double dose to make up for missed doses.
If you have any further questions about the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
4. Possible adverse effects
Like all medicines, DR. MANCEAU SYRUP may have adverse effects, although not everyone experiences them.
Very rarely (in less than 1 case per 10,000 treated patients), gastrointestinal disturbances such as cramps may occur, in which case it is necessary to reduce the dose. Very rarely, allergic reactions (pruritus, urticaria, or localized or generalized exanthema) may also occur.
If you consider any of the adverse effects you experience to be severe, or if you notice any adverse effects not listed in this leaflet, inform your doctor or pharmacist.
5. Storage of Dr. Manceau Syrup
Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
No special storage conditions are required. Store in the original container.
Do not use DR. MANCEAU SYRUP after the expiry date stated on the container, following the word EXP.

6. Additional Information
Composition of DR. MANCEAU SYRUP
The active ingredients in each 5 ml of syrup are:
- Aqueous extract of fruit of Pyrus Malus L (cooking apple)………… 0.5 g
- Aqueous extract of leaves of Cassia angustifolia Vahl (senna)………… 0.4 g
- Aqueous extract of fruit of Coriandrum sativum L (coriander)………... 0.05 g
The other components (excipients) are: Sucrose (768 mg) per ml of syrup, Purified Water.
Appearance of the Product and Contents of the Container
Dr. Manceau Syrup is available in 60 ml and 120 ml bottles, packaged in cardboard boxes containing a dosing spoon.
