1. What Declobán ointment is and what it is used for
Declobán belongs to a group of medicines called potent topical corticosteroids.
Declobán is a medicine indicated for the short-term topical treatment of dermatoses (skin conditions) such as psoriasis (excluding generalized plaque psoriasis), eczemas resistant to other topical corticosteroids, lichen planus, discoid lupus erythematosus, and other skin conditions that do not respond satisfactorily to less potent topical corticosteroids.
2. What you need to know before using Declobán ointment
Do not use Declobán:
- if you are allergic to clobetasol propionate, to other corticosteroids, or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
- if you have rosacea (a chronic skin condition affecting the nose or surrounding areas, characterized by redness), acne, or perioral dermatitis (inflammation of the skin around the mouth).
- if you have itching (pruritus) in the perianal or genital area.
- if you have a skin infection caused by bacteria (e.g. impetigo), fungi (e.g. candidiasis, ringworm), or viruses (e.g. herpes simplex, chickenpox).
- in cases of dermatoses in children under 1 year of age, including diaper rash and skin inflammation or rashes caused by diapers.
Warnings and precautions
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before starting to use Declobán ointment:
- If you experience new-onset bone pain or worsening of pre-existing bone symptoms during treatment with Declobán ointment, especially if you have been using Declobán ointment for a prolonged or repeated period.
- If you are taking any other oral or topical medication containing corticosteroids, or medications to suppress your immune system (e.g. for autoimmune disease or after organ transplant). Combining Declobán ointment with these medicines may lead to serious infections.
- Continuous treatment over large skin areas and for long periods should be avoided, especially in infants and children. When used in children, strict weekly medical supervision is required, and the treated area should not be covered. Bear in mind that diapers may act as an occlusive dressing.
- This ointment should not be used on the face unless explicitly directed by your doctor, as it may alter the thickness of your skin.
- Special caution is advised if you are being treated for psoriasis; strict medical supervision is recommended.
- When applying near the eyelids, care must be taken to avoid contact with the eyes, as this may increase intraocular pressure. If contact occurs, rinse the eyes thoroughly with plenty of water. If irritation persists, consult your doctor.
- If the skin lesions become infected, inform your doctor so appropriate treatment can be provided.
- The recommended maximum dose must not be exceeded (see section 3).
- Contact your doctor if you experience blurred vision or any other visual disturbances.
Using Declobán with other medicines
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are currently using, have recently used, or might need to use any other medicines, including those obtained without a prescription, especially if you are being treated with other steroids.
