INSTRUCTION FOR MEDICAL USE OF THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT BEARBERRY LEAVES (UVAE URSI FOLIUM)
Composition:
Active substance: bearberry leaves (uvae ursi folium);
One pack contains: bearberry leaves (uvae ursi folium) – 50 g.
Pharmaceutical form. Leaves.
Main physicochemical properties: fragments of leaves of various shapes, light green, dark green or brownish-green in color, passing through a sieve with 3 mm diameter apertures. Odorless. Taste strongly astringent, bitter.
Pharmacotherapeutic group.
Herbal medicinal products with diuretic effect. ATC Code C03BX.
Pharmacological properties.
The biologically active components of the drug exert diuretic, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and saluretic effects. The drug increases diuresis and exhibits antibacterial properties under conditions of alkaline urine reaction.
Clinical characteristics.
Indications.
Inflammatory diseases of the kidneys, urinary bladder, and urinary tract (pyelitis, cystitis, urethritis), renal insufficiency with impaired water and mineral metabolism – as part of complex therapy.
Contraindications.
Hypersensitivity to the biologically active substances of the drug.
Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interactions.
Do not use simultaneously with medicinal products and food that reduce urine pH.
Usage Notes.
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
The drug is contraindicated during pregnancy.
During breastfeeding, the drug should be used only as prescribed by a physician and only when the benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the infant.
Ability to affect reaction speed when driving or operating machinery.

Method of Administration and Dosage
Place 1 tablespoon of the leaves into an enameled container, pour 200 mL of hot boiled water, cover with a lid, and steep in a boiling water bath for 30 minutes. Immediately afterward, strain the solution and squeeze the residue into the strained decoction. Adjust the final volume of the decoction to 200 mL with boiled water.
For adults and children aged 16 years and older, take 1 tablespoon of the warm decoction 5–6 times daily, 40 minutes after meals.
For children under 16 years of age, prepare the decoction using a ratio of 1 teaspoon of leaves per 100 mL of water. Administer the decoction to children 4 times daily, 40 minutes after meals:
- Children aged 5–7 years: 1 teaspoon;
- Children aged 7–12 years: 1 dessert spoon;
- Children aged 12–16 years: 2 dessert spoons.
Shake the decoction well before administration.
The duration of treatment is determined individually by a physician.
Children.
The drug may be used in children aged 5 years and older only under medical prescription.
Overdose.
Exceeding the recommended doses or prolonged use may cause nausea, vomiting, kidney dysfunction, and abortion in pregnant women.
Treatment: symptomatic therapy.
Adverse reactions.
Discoloration of urine to dark green color, allergic reactions (including hyperemia, rash, itching, skin edema), nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.
If adverse reactions occur, discontinue use of the drug and consult a physician.
Shelf life. 5 years.
Storage conditions.
Store in the original packaging at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C.
Keep out of reach of children.
The prepared decoction should be stored at a temperature between 8 °C and 15 °C for no more than 2 days.
