1. What Oscillococcinum is and what it is used for

Oscillococcinum is a medicine used to treat symptoms of flu, cold, and flu-like infections: fever (up to 38.5°C), general malaise, muscle and joint pain.
Oscillococcinum is recommended to be taken as soon as the first symptoms of infection appear, such as: sore throat, feeling of weakness, sensation of cold. During periods of increased incidence of colds, taking Oscillococcinum once a week may reduce the number of infections.

2. Important information before using Oscillococcinum

When not to use Oscillococcinum
Oscillococcinum must not be used if the patient is allergic to the active substance
or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).

Warnings and precautions
If symptoms worsen or persist for more than 3 days, consult a doctor.
In case of fever above 39°C, persistent cough, shortness of breath, or other worrying symptoms, contact a doctor.

Oscillococcinum with other medicines
Inform your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines currently taken, recently taken, or planned to be taken.

Taking Oscillococcinum with food and drink
No special requirements.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding, suspects she might be pregnant, or is planning to have a baby,
consult a doctor before using this medicine.

Driving and operating machinery
Considering the composition of the medicine, no influence on driving or operating machinery is expected.

Oscillococcinum contains sucrose and monohydrate lactose.
If there is intolerance to certain sugars, consult a doctor before taking this medicine.

3. How to use Oscillococcinum

This medicine should always be used exactly as described in this patient information leaflet or as directed by a doctor, pharmacist, or nurse.
If in doubt, consult a doctor, pharmacist, or nurse.
Administer orally.
Dissolve the contents of the container in the mouth, holding the granules under the tongue.
For younger children (under 2 years of age), dissolve the granules in a small amount of water and administer with a spoon.

Recommended dosage of Oscillococcinum:
Adults, adolescents, and children over 1 year of age:
Prophylaxis (preventive treatment): during periods of increased risk of infection, take 1 dose once a week.
Onset of infection: take 1 dose as early as possible; if necessary, repeat 2 to 3 times at 6-hour intervals.
Established infection: 1 dose in the morning and 1 dose in the evening for 3 days.

Duration of use: if symptoms worsen or persist for more than 3 days, consult a doctor. For prophylaxis, the medicine may be used for up to 6 months.

Overdose of Oscillococcinum
Consult a doctor or pharmacist.

Missed dose of Oscillococcinum
Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.

4. Possible adverse reactions

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause adverse reactions, although not everybody will experience them.

5. How to store Oscillococcinum

No special storage instructions are required.
Keep the medicine out of sight and reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the packaging.
The expiry date refers to the last day of the stated month.
Medicines must not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer in use. This will help protect the environment.

What Oscillococcinum contains

  • The active substance is: Anas barbariae hepatis et cordis extractum 200K. 1 g of granules contains 0.01 ml of Anas barbariae hepatis et cordis extract 200K.
  • Other ingredients are: sucrose, monohydrate lactose.

The cardboard box contains 6, 12, 18, 24 or 30 single-dose containers.
