1. What Heparin-Hasco Forte is and what it is used for

Heparin-Hasco Forte contains heparin, which acts as an anticoagulant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-edematous agent.
The medicine is intended for topical application to the skin.
Heparin-Hasco Forte is indicated as supportive treatment in:

  • diseases of superficial veins: ∙ phlebitis, ∙ thrombophlebitis, ∙ varicose veins of the lower limbs,
  • oedema, contusions, subcutaneous haematomas.

2. Information before using Heparin-Hasco Forte

When not to use Heparin-Hasco Forte:

  • if the patient is allergic to heparin or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6),
  • on open, bleeding, or oozing wounds, mucous membranes, and around the eyes, skin lesions of unknown origin, or infected skin,
  • due to the presence of methyl and propyl parahydroxybenzoates, the medicine should not be used in individuals allergic to parabens.

Warnings and precautions
Before starting treatment with Heparin-Hasco Forte, discuss it with your doctor, pharmacist,
or nurse.
Use with caution in patients with diagnosed bleeding disorders.
Prolonged use of the medicine may cause skin hypersensitivity reactions in some patients.

If skin changes occur (redness, rash, itching, burning, erythema), discontinue use of the medicine.
During treatment, monitor the skin condition regularly.

Children
Heparin-Hasco Forte should not be used in children due to lack of clinical data on efficacy and safety in this patient group.

Heparin-Hasco Forte and other medicines
Inform your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines you are currently using, have recently used, or plan to use.
Heparin applied topically in gel form is only minimally absorbed into the bloodstream. Due to low plasma concentrations of heparin, interactions with other medicines are negligible.
However, in patients with bleeding disorders or those taking anticoagulant medicines, prolonged application over large skin areas may enhance anticoagulant effects, increasing the risk of bleeding. In such cases, monitoring of blood coagulation parameters is recommended.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and fertility
If the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding, suspects she may be pregnant, or is planning to have a child, she should consult a doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.
Heparin does not cross the placenta or pass into breast milk; however, during pregnancy and breastfeeding, the medicine should be used cautiously and only when clearly necessary.

Driving and operating machinery
There are no data available regarding the effect of the medicine on the ability to drive or operate machinery.

Heparin-Hasco Forte contains propylene glycol, which may cause skin irritation.

Heparin-Hasco Forte contains methyl parahydroxybenzoate and propyl parahydroxybenzoate, which may cause allergic reactions (including delayed-type reactions).

3. How to use Heparin-Hasco Forte

This medicine should always be used exactly as described in the patient leaflet or as advised by your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse. If in doubt, consult your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse.
This medicine is intended for topical application to the skin.
It is recommended to evenly spread a thin layer of gel (a strip 3 cm to 10 cm long) over the affected area, 2 to 3 times daily.
After applying the medicine, hands should be washed thoroughly.
Use in children
This medicine should not be used in children due to lack of clinical data on efficacy and safety in this patient group.
Use of more than the recommended dose of Heparin-Hasco Forte
In case of topical application, overdose of heparin-containing medicines is not known. However, if such a case occurs, consult a doctor.
Missed dose of Heparin-Hasco Forte
Do not use a double dose to make up for a missed dose.

4. Possible adverse reactions

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause adverse reactions, although not everybody gets them.
During prolonged use of the medicine, skin allergic reactions may occur: redness,
itching, rash, burning sensation, erythema, inflammatory skin conditions.

If any adverse reactions occur, including any adverse reactions not listed
in this leaflet, inform your doctor, pharmacist or nurse. Adverse reactions
can be reported directly to the Department of Monitoring Adverse Drug Reactions at the Office for Registration of Medicinal Products, Medical Devices and Biocidal Products:

5. How to store Heparin-Hasco forte

Store in the tightly closed, original packaging, at a temperature below 25°C.
Keep the medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the packaging. The expiry date refers to the last day of the stated month.
Medicines must not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. This will help protect the environment.

6. Contents of the package and other information

What Heparin-Hasco Forte contains

  • The active substance is sodium heparin. One gram of gel contains 1000 IU of sodium heparin.
  • The other ingredients (excipients) are: carbomer 5984, sodium hydroxide 30%, propylene glycol, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, propyl parahydroxybenzoate, disodium edetate, polysorbate 20, rose aroma AR 0287, purified water.

What Heparin-Hasco Forte looks like and contents of the pack
Heparin-Hasco Forte is a colourless gel with a rose scent.
The medicinal product is packed in an aluminium tube with a polyethylene cap containing 35 g or 90 g of gel,
in a cardboard box.
