Composition: 5 ml of syrup contains 116 mg of calcium ions in the form of calcium gluconolactobionate (Calcii glubionas) and calcium lactobionate (Calcii lactobionas), and excipients: sucrose, propionic acid, sodium benzoate, strawberry flavor AR 0012/F, hydrochloric acid, purified water.
Dosage:
Oral administration.
Children aged 2 to 11 years – 2.5 to 5 ml of syrup twice daily.
Children aged 12 to 17 years – 5 to 10 ml of syrup 2 to 3 times daily.
Adults – 15 ml of syrup 2 to 3 times daily.
Storage: Store below 25°C.
Keep the medicine out of sight and reach of children.

1. What Calcium Aflofarm (strawberry-flavored) is and what it is used for

Calcium Aflofarm (strawberry-flavored) is a syrup containing 116 mg of calcium ions in 5 ml of syrup.
Calcium Aflofarm (strawberry-flavored) syrup is indicated:

  • for supplementation in calcium deficiency, especially in conditions of increased demand (pregnancy, breastfeeding, periods of rapid growth in children, convalescence, bone fractures, rickets);
  • as supportive treatment in allergic diseases, upper respiratory tract infections, and osteoporosis.

2. Information before taking Calcium Aflofarm (strawberry-flavoured)

When not to take Calcium Aflofarm (strawberry-flavoured)

  • if the patient is allergic to the active substances or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
  • if the patient has hypercalcaemia (excessively high calcium levels in the blood), hypercalciuria (excessively high calcium levels in the urine), or galactosaemia.

Warnings and precautions
The medicine contains calcium. Due to the risk of overdose, check before use whether other
medicines being taken also contain calcium.
Before starting to take Calcium Aflofarm (strawberry-flavoured), discuss with a doctor or pharmacist:

  • if the patient is predisposed to kidney stone formation;
  • if the patient has kidney or heart diseases.

Concomitant use of cardiac glycosides and calcium compounds increases the risk of cardiac rhythm disorders.
Do not administer this medicine with high doses of vitamin D or during treatment with tetracycline antibiotics or thiazide diuretics (e.g. chlorothiazide).
Calcium Aflofarm (strawberry-flavoured) and other medicines
Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines the patient is currently taking or has recently taken, as well as any medicines the patient plans to take.
If the patient is taking any of the medicines listed below, a dose adjustment or discontinuation of treatment may be necessary.
Inform your doctor if the patient is taking:

  • tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones (antibiotics used to treat bacterial infections);
  • fluoride compounds (ingredients of toothpaste);
  • sulfasalazine (a medicine used, among others, in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis);
  • thiazide diuretics, vitamin D;
  • glucocorticosteroids (steroids used, among others, in the treatment of rheumatic disease);
  • parathyroid hormone (a medicine used in the treatment of hyperthyroidism);
  • cardiac glycosides (medicines used to treat heart failure and heart rhythm disorders), as the risk of cardiac rhythm disorders increases;
  • verapamil and other calcium channel blockers (medicines used to treat hypertension and heart failure), as high doses of this medicine, especially in combination with vitamin D, may reduce the effectiveness of these medicines.

If the patient is unsure whether they are taking any of the medicines listed above, they should contact a doctor or pharmacist.
Calcium Aflofarm (strawberry-flavoured) with food and drink
A gap of three hours should be maintained between taking calcium-containing products and other medicines.
Products that may reduce absorption of the medicine, for example:

  • foods containing oxalates (e.g. spinach, rhubarb);
  • milk and dairy products (yoghurt, cheese, kefir, etc.);
  • cereal products (bread, pasta, etc.);
  • large amounts of fat;
  • alkaline foods (e.g. potatoes, cabbage, celery, tomatoes, carrots).

Products that may enhance absorption of the medicine:

  • citric acid;
  • acidic foods (e.g. oat flakes, white and rye bread, eggs, fish, coffee, black tea).

Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding, suspects she may be pregnant, or is planning to have a child, she should consult a doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.
Driving and operating machinery
No effect.
This medicine contains sucrose.
5 ml of syrup contains 1.53 g of sucrose. If the patient has previously been diagnosed with intolerance to certain sugars, they should consult a doctor before taking this medicine.

3. How to take Calcium Aflofarm (strawberry flavoured)

This medicine should always be taken exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as advised by your doctor or pharmacist. If in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Method of administration
The medicine should be taken orally.
A measuring spoon, which facilitates dosing, is included in the packaging and should be used to measure the medicine.
The recommended dose is:

  • children aged 2 to 11 years - 2.5 to 5 ml of syrup twice daily;
  • children aged 12 to 17 years - 5 to 10 ml of syrup two to three times daily;
  • adults - 15 ml of syrup two to three times daily.

Taking more Calcium Aflofarm (strawberry flavoured) than recommended
Seek immediate medical advice from a doctor or pharmacist, even if the patient feels well.
If you forget to take Calcium Aflofarm (strawberry flavoured)
Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.
If a dose is missed and symptoms persist, take the next dose at the scheduled time.
If you have any further doubts concerning the use of this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

4. Possible adverse reactions

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause adverse reactions, although not everyone experiences them.
Possible adverse reactions:

  • gastrointestinal disturbances;
  • hypercalcaemia, the symptoms of which include loss of appetite, gastrointestinal disturbances, muscle weakness, polyuria.

If any of the above symptoms occur, the medicine should be discontinued
and a doctor should be consulted.

in this leaflet, inform a doctor or pharmacist.

Keep the medicine out of sight and reach of children.
Store below 25°C.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the label. The expiry date refers to the last day of the stated month.
Medicines must not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer in use. This will help protect the environment.

  • The active substance is calcium gluconolactobionate and calcium lactobionate. 5 ml of syrup contains 116 mg of calcium ions in the form of calcium gluconolactobionate and calcium lactobioniate.
  • Other ingredients are: sucrose, propionic acid, sodium benzoate, strawberry flavour AR 0012/F, hydrochloric acid, purified water.
