1. What Magnesioboi is and what it is used for

This medicine contains magnesium lactate. It belongs to a group of medicines called "mineral supplements".

It is used to prevent magnesium deficiency states due to diets low in vegetables, whole grains, and legumes, which may manifest as weakness and muscle cramps in adults and children over 12 years of age.

You should consult a doctor if your condition worsens or does not improve after 7 days.

2. What you need to know before starting to take Magnesioboi

Do not take Magnesioboi:

  • if you are allergic to magnesium lactate or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6),
  • if you have severe renal insufficiency (markedly reduced kidney function),
  • if you currently have or have had heart diseases such as angina pectoris or myocardial infarction,
  • if you currently have or have had diabetic coma (loss of consciousness due to excessively high or low blood sugar levels),
  • if you have been diagnosed with myasthenia gravis (an autoimmune neuromuscular disease),
  • if you suffer from chronic diarrhea or have been diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis),
  • if you have undergone intestinal surgery (ileostomy),
  • if you have symptoms of appendicitis: abdominal pain (pain around the navel) that increases in intensity and shifts to the lower right side of the abdomen as the condition progresses. This pain may be accompanied by loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, and low-grade fever.

Warnings and precautions

Consult your doctor or pharmacist before starting to take Magnesioboi.

  • Prolonged use of this medicine may cause hypermagnesemia (high levels of magnesium in the blood), characterized by nausea, vomiting, respiratory depression (weak breathing), and depression of the central nervous system (symptoms may range from drowsiness to coma), hyperreflexia (exaggerated reflexes), muscle weakness, and certain cardiovascular effects such as low blood pressure, decreased heart rate, and cardiac arrest.
  • Taking this medicine on an empty stomach may cause diarrhea.
  • Patients with kidney disease should consult their doctor before taking this medicine.

Children and adolescents

Do not administer to children under 12 years of age unless otherwise directed by a physician.

Elderly patients

In patients over 65 years of age who have reduced kidney function, the dose and frequency of administration of magnesium salts should be adjusted by the physician according to the degree of renal impairment.

Use of Magnesioboi with other medicines

Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might need to take any other medicines.

This medicine reduces the absorption of:

  • Antibiotics such as tetracyclines (doxycycline, minocycline, oxytetracycline, tetracycline) and quinolones (ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, norfloxacin, ofloxacin).
  • Bisphosphonates (medicines used in the treatment of osteoporosis).

Magnesioboi and these medicines should be taken at least 2 hours apart to avoid unwanted interactions.

Taking Magnesioboi with food and drink

Excessive and prolonged consumption of products containing magnesium and calcium may lead to elevated calcium levels in the blood. In such cases, calcium intake and consumption of calcium-rich foods, such as dairy products, should be monitored.

This medicine should be taken after meals.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to become pregnant, consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.

It is recommended to meet magnesium requirements through a diet rich in vegetables, whole grains, and legumes to prevent consequences of magnesium deficiency during pregnancy.

No problems have been reported in breastfed infants whose mothers take magnesium at recommended doses.

Driving and using machines

The effect of magnesium on the ability to drive and operate machinery is negligible or none.

Magnesioboi contains lactose

This medicine contains lactose. If your doctor has informed you that you have an intolerance to certain sugars, consult with him before taking this medicine.

3. How to take Magnesioboi

Follow exactly the instructions for use provided in this leaflet or those given by your doctor or pharmacist. If in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

The recommended dose for adults and children over 12 years of age is 1 to 2 tablets (48.62 mg to 97.24 mg of magnesium) after each of the three daily meals (146 mg to 292 mg of magnesium per day). The tablets should be taken with a sufficient amount of liquid.

The maximum recommended dose must not be exceeded (6 tablets per day).

Elderly patients, children under 12 years of age, and patients with kidney disease should consult their doctor.

This medicine is administered orally.

If symptoms worsen or do not improve within 7 days of treatment, consult your doctor.

If you take more Magnesioboi than you should

If you forget to take Magnesioboi

Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose. Take the dose as soon as you remember, then continue your treatment as before.

If you have any further questions about the use of this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
