INSTRUCTION FOR MEDICAL USE OF THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT Zirka
Composition:
Active ingredients: menthol, camphor, peppermint oil, eucalyptus oil, clove oil, cinnamon oil;
1 ml of liquid balm contains 280 mg of menthol, 88 mg of camphor, 229 mg of peppermint oil, 1 mg of eucalyptus oil, 46 mg of clove oil, 38 mg of cinnamon oil.
Excipient: mineral oil.
Pharmaceutical form. Liquid balm.
Main physicochemical properties: brown-red liquid with the odor of essential oils.
Pharmacotherapeutic group. Antipruritic agents. ATC code D04A X.
Pharmacological properties.
The drug belongs to the group of agents that stimulate the receptors of mucous membranes, skin, and subcutaneous tissues. It has anti-inflammatory, local warming, antiseptic, and anesthetic properties, dilates capillaries, thereby improving blood supply and slightly reducing arterial pressure, and acts on reflex centers of the central nervous system, producing a stimulating effect. The action of the liquid balm manifests as attenuation of the inflammatory process and reflex relief of pain (headache, muscle pain) caused by influenza, colds, and other factors.
Clinical characteristics.
Indications.
Symptomatic treatment of influenza, dizziness, headache, common cold, rhinitis; insect bites.
Contraindications.
Hypersensitivity to any component of the medicinal product. Bronchial asthma, pertussis, pseudocroup, tendency to bronchospasm or seizures. Skin damage, including burns, impaired skin integrity, eczema, dermatitis, or skin infections with suppuration.
Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction.
Studies on the interaction of the drug with other medicinal products have not been conducted.
Special precautions for use.
For external use only. Avoid contact of the balm with eyes, mucous membranes, and open wounds. Allergic reactions are possible in isolated cases. If such reactions occur, discontinue use of the medicinal product and wash off any residue from the application sites with warm water and soap.
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Due to lack of experience with the use of Star balm during pregnancy or breastfeeding, administration of the product to these patient groups is not recommended.
Ability to affect reaction rate while driving or operating machinery.
In case of adverse reactions affecting the nervous system (dizziness, excitement, seizures), refrain from driving or operating machinery.
Method of Administration and Dosage.
Apply a small amount of the preparation to the affected areas and rub into the skin (in case of headache – on the temples and back of the head; in case of nasal congestion – under the nostrils; in case of colds – rub into the back, chest, and abdomen). For insect bites, apply the balm to the bite site and rub into the skin.
The duration of treatment depends on individual patient characteristics, the course of the disease, and is determined by the therapeutic effect achieved, the nature of concomitant therapy, and the drug's tolerability.
Children.
Contraindicated in children under 3 years of age.
The preparation should be used with caution in children from 3 years of age on facial areas, as it may cause bronchospasm.
Overdose.
Possible intensification of adverse reactions, sensation of strong warmth and burning.
In case of accidental ingestion, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, symptoms of central nervous system depression, dizziness, ataxia, seizures, flushing, drowsiness, and respiratory difficulty may occur.
Treatment: in case of ingestion – gastric lavage; symptomatic therapy.
Side effects.
Allergic reactions, including skin rashes, urticaria, itching, irritation of the skin and mucous membranes, hyperemia, dermatitis, including contact dermatitis, especially in children.
Nervous system side effects: headache, dizziness, excitement; seizures caused by camphor may occur.
Respiratory system side effects: increased likelihood and frequency of bronchial spasm, especially in children.
Shelf life. 5 years.
Storage conditions.
Store in a dry, light-protected place at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C.
Keep out of reach of children.
