I N S T R U C T I O N for medical use of the medicinal product WORMWOOD HERB (ARTEMISIAE ABSINTHII HERBA)
Composition:
Active substance: wormwood herb (Artemisiae absinthii herba);
1 pack contains: wormwood herb (Artemisiae absinthii herba) 50 g, or 75 g;
1 filter bag contains: wormwood herb (Artemisiae absinthii herba) 1.5 g.
Medicinal form. Herb.
Main physico-chemical characteristics: fragments of leaves, stems, and flower heads of various shapes, grey, green, yellow, greenish-grey in color.
Pharmacotherapeutic group. Appetite stimulants. ATC code A15.
Pharmacological properties.
Pharmacodynamics.
The biologically active substances of the drug stimulate appetite, enhance the function of digestive glands, increase secretion of bile, pancreatic and gastric juices, and exert anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effects.
Clinical characteristics.
Indications.
To enhance appetite and improve secretory activity of the digestive organs in gastritis with reduced gastric secretory function; as part of complex therapy for cholecystitis and biliary tract dyskinesia.
Contraindications.
Hypersensitivity to biologically active substances of the drug. Peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum, cholelithiasis; history of bleeding from pelvic organs; anemia; epilepsy.
Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions. Unknown.
Special precautions.
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Contraindicated (the drug increases uterine tone).
Ability to affect reaction rate when driving or operating machinery. No effect.
Dosage and Administration.
Place 2 teaspoons of the herb into an enameled container, pour 200 mL of hot boiled water, cover with a lid, and steep in a boiling water bath for 15 minutes. Cool at room temperature for 45 minutes, then strain and squeeze the residue, adding the expressed liquid to the strained infusion. Adjust the final volume of the infusion to 200 mL with boiled water. Take warm, 30 minutes before meals: for adults and children aged 14 years and older – 1 tablespoon 3–4 times daily; for children aged 10–14 years – 1 dessert spoon 3 times daily; for children aged 5–10 years – 1 teaspoon 3 times daily.
Place 3 filter bags into a glass or enameled container, pour 200 mL of boiling water, cover and steep for 15 minutes. Take the infusion warm, 30 minutes before meals: for adults and children aged 14 years and older – 1 tablespoon 3–4 times daily; for children aged 10–14 years – 1 dessert spoon 3 times daily; for children aged 5–10 years – 1 teaspoon 3 times daily.
Store the prepared aqueous extract at 8–15 °C for no more than 2 days.
Treatment duration: 2–3 weeks. Mandatory intervals between treatment courses should last up to 2 months.
Children. The product can be used in children aged 5 years and older.
Overdose. With prolonged use, atonic constipation may occur. Use in increased doses, especially prolonged, may lead to poisoning—development of seizures, hallucinations, and so-called wormwood-induced epilepsy. Treatment is symptomatic.
Side effects.
Possible hypersensitivity reactions (including hyperemia, rash, itching), nausea, vomiting. If adverse reactions occur, discontinue the drug.
Shelf life. 2 years. Do not use after the expiry date stated on the packaging.
Storage conditions. Store in the original packaging at a temperature not exceeding 25 ºC, in a place inaccessible to children.
Packaging. 50 g or 75 g in packs with an inner pouch; 1.5 g in tea-filter bags, 20 tea-filter bags per pack or in a pack with an inner pouch.
