INSTRUCTION FOR MEDICAL USE OF THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT WORMWOOD HERB (HERBA ARTEMISIAE ABSINTHII)
Composition:
Active substance: wormwood herb (Herba Artemisiae absinthii);
1 pack contains wormwood herb (Herba Artemisiae absinthii) – 50 g.
Pharmaceutical form. Herb.
Main physico-chemical properties: flower heads, fragments of stems and leaves of various shapes, passing through a sieve with 7 mm diameter openings. Colour is grayish-green. Odour is pleasant, characteristic, strong. Taste is pungent, bitter.
Pharmacotherapeutic group.
Appetite stimulants. ATC code A15.
Pharmacological Properties.
Pharmacodynamics.
The biologically active substances of the drug stimulate appetite, enhance the function of digestive gland organs, increase secretion of bile, pancreatic and gastric juices, and exert anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effects.

Pharmacokinetics has not been determined.
Clinical characteristics.
Indications.
To stimulate appetite and improve secretory activity of the digestive organs in gastritis with reduced gastric secretory function; as part of complex therapy for cholecystitis and biliary tract dyskinesia.
Contraindications.
Hypersensitivity to biologically active components of the drug. Gastric and duodenal ulcers, cholelithiasis; history of bleeding from pelvic organs; anemia; epilepsy.
Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction. Unknown.
Special precautions.
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Contraindicated (the drug increases uterine tone).
Ability to affect reaction speed when driving or operating machinery.

Method of Administration and Dosage.
Place 2 teaspoons of the herb into an enameled container, pour 200 ml of hot boiled water, cover with a lid, and steep in a boiling water bath for 15 minutes. Cool at room temperature for 45 minutes, then strain, squeeze the residue, and add the expressed liquid back to the strained infusion. Adjust the final volume of the infusion to 200 ml with boiled water. Take warm, 30 minutes before meals: for adults and children aged 14 years and older – 1 tablespoon 3–4 times daily; for children aged 10–14 years – 1 dessert spoon 3 times daily; for children aged 5–10 years – 1 teaspoon 3 times daily.
Treatment duration: 2–3 weeks. The course may be repeated as prescribed by a physician. Mandatory breaks of up to 2 months are required between treatment courses.
Children.
The preparation may be used in children aged 5 years and older, as prescribed by a physician.
Overdose.
With prolonged use, atonic constipation may occur. Overdosing, especially if prolonged, may lead to poisoning, resulting in seizures, hallucinations, and so-called "wormwood" epilepsy. Treatment is symptomatic.
Side effects.
Possible hypersensitivity reactions (including hyperemia, rash, itching), nausea, vomiting. If adverse reactions occur, discontinue use of the product and consult a physician.
Shelf life. 2 years.
Do not use the medicinal product after the expiry date stated on the packaging.
Storage conditions.
Store in the original packaging, protected from light, in a place inaccessible to children, at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C. Prepared infusion should be stored in a cool place for no more than 2 days.
