INSTRUCTIONS FOR MEDICAL USE OF THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT PEPPERMINT TINCTURE

Composition:

Active substance: 1 vial contains 25 ml of peppermint tincture (Menthae piperitae folium) (1:20) (extractant – 90% ethanol);

Excipient: peppermint essential oil.

Pharmaceutical form. Tincture.

Main physicochemical properties: liquid, ranging in color from green to greenish-brown, with the characteristic odor of peppermint. Sediment may form during storage.

Pharmacotherapeutic group. Antiemetic and antinausea agents. ATC code A04AD.

Pharmacological properties.

Pharmacodynamics. Peppermint oil (containing up to 70% menthol and its esters) and other biologically active substances present in peppermint leaves (menthone, oleanolic and ursolic acids, flavonoid glycosides), by stimulating sensitive receptors of the oral and gastric mucosa, reflexively reduce the sensation of nausea and prevent vomiting. Additionally, they exert a moderate spasmolytic, sedative, and choleretic effect.

Pharmacokinetics. Not studied.

Clinical characteristics.

Indications.

Nausea, vomiting, digestive disorders, angina pectoris, neuralgic pains.

Contraindications.

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug. Bronchial asthma and spasmophilia.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction.

Not established.

Usage Notes

Patients with gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn) should avoid using the medication, as heartburn may increase.

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Peppermint tincture contains ethyl alcohol; therefore, the medication is not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Ability to influence reaction rate while driving or operating machinery.

It should be noted that the medication contains ethyl alcohol; therefore, caution is advised, and one should refrain from driving or operating potentially hazardous machinery.

Method of Administration and Dosage.

Take the medication orally before meals. For adults and children aged 12 years and older, administer 10–15 drops of the tincture 3–4 times daily.

The duration of treatment depends on the course of the disease and individual sensitivity to the drug.

Children.

"Mint Tincture" is not recommended for children under 12 years of age due to the presence of ethyl alcohol in the formulation.

Overdose.

Inappropriate use of mint preparations may cause chest pain. Treatment is symptomatic.

Side effects.

Allergic reactions are possible (including hyperemia, rash, itching, skin swelling, urticaria, contact dermatitis). If adverse reactions occur, discontinue use of the product and consult a physician.

Shelf life. 3 years.

Storage conditions.

Store in a light-protected place at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C.

Keep out of reach of children.
