INSTRUCTION FOR MEDICAL USE OF THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT BUTTERBUR LEAF (FARFARAEFOLIA)
Composition:
Active substance: butterbur leaf (Farfaraefolia);
One pack contains 40 g of butterbur leaf (Farfaraefolia).
Pharmaceutical form. Leaves.
Main physico-chemical characteristics: fragments of leaves of various shapes, grayish-green in color.
Pharmacotherapeutic group. Expectorants. ATC code R05CA.
Pharmacological properties.
Pharmacodynamics.
The biologically active substances of the drug exert expectorant, anti-inflammatory, soothing, diaphoretic, and spasmolytic effects; restore the activity of the ciliated epithelium of the trachea and bronchi, promote the liquefaction and elimination of sputum, provide a coating effect on the mucous membranes of the oral cavity and larynx, protecting them from irritation.
Clinical characteristics.
Indications. Respiratory tract diseases (laryngitis, tracheitis, chronic bronchitis, bronchopneumonia, bronchial asthma, bronchiectasis) – as part of complex therapy.
Contraindications. Hypersensitivity to the biologically active substances of the drug.
Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction. Unknown.
Special precautions for use.
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
May be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding only if clearly needed and under the supervision of a physician, when the potential benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus/infant.
Ability to influence reaction rate while driving or operating machinery.

Method of Administration and Dosage.
Place 2 dessert spoons of leaves into an enameled container, pour 200 ml of hot boiled water, cover with a lid, and steep in a boiling water bath for 15 minutes. Cool at room temperature for 45 minutes, strain, and squeeze the residue into the strained infusion. Adjust the volume of the infusion to 200 ml with boiled water. Take warm, adults and children aged 14 years and older – ⅓–½ cup 2–3 times daily, 1 hour before meals, or 1 tablespoon 4–6 times daily. Children aged 12–14 years – ¼ cup, aged 7–12 years – 2 tablespoons, aged 3–7 years – 1 tablespoon, 2–3 times daily, 1 hour before meals. Shake the infusion before use.
Store the prepared infusion at 8–15°C for no more than 2 days.
The duration of treatment is determined individually by a physician.
Children.
The medication may be used in children aged 3 years and older, as prescribed by a physician.

Adverse reactions.
In case of hypersensitivity, allergic reactions are possible (including hyperemia, rash, itching, skin swelling).
Shelf life. 3 years.
Do not use the medicinal product after the expiry date stated on the packaging.
Storage conditions.
Store in the original packaging at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C, in a place inaccessible to children.
