INSTRUCTIONS FOR MEDICAL USE OF THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT CORN SILKS WITH STIGMAS (STYLICUM STIGMATIS ZEA MAYDIS)
Composition:
Active substance: corn silks with stigmas.
Medicinal form. Silks with stigmas.
Main physico-chemical properties:
Ground raw material: filamentous fragments of brown, brown-red, light-yellow color passing through a sieve with 7 mm diameter openings. Weak, characteristic odor. Taste with a mucilaginous sensation.
Coarse powder: filamentous fragments of brown, brown-red, light-yellow color passing through a sieve with 2 mm diameter openings. Weak, characteristic odor. Taste with a mucilaginous sensation.
Pharmacotherapeutic group. Agents used in biliary pathology. ATC code A05AX.
Pharmacological properties.
Pharmacodynamics.
The biologically active substances of the drug exert choleretic, diuretic (increase urine output by 150–160%), hemostatic, and hypoglycemic effects; they increase bile secretion, reduce bile viscosity, decrease bilirubin content, raise blood prothrombin levels and accelerate blood coagulation, and promote the urinary excretion of urates, oxalates, and phosphates.

Clinical characteristics.
Indications.
Cholecystitis, cholangitis, hepatitis with impaired bile secretion; cystitis, urolithiasis, edema; hemorrhagic diatheses, bleeding caused by decreased prothrombin levels (as part of complex therapy).
Contraindications.
Hypersensitivity to biologically active substances of the drug. Increased blood coagulation, elevated prothrombin index, thrombophlebitis, cholelithiasis with presence of stones larger than 10 mm in diameter, obstructive jaundice, anorexia.
Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interactions. Not studied.
Usage characteristics.
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Under a doctor's prescription, when the benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus/child.
Ability to affect reaction speed when driving vehicles or operating machinery.

Method of Administration and Dosage.
Place 3 tablespoons of the column with receptacles into an enameled container, pour 200 ml of hot boiled water, cover with a lid, and steep in a boiling water bath for 15 minutes. Cool at room temperature for 45 minutes, then strain and squeeze the residue into the strained infusion. Adjust the volume of the infusion to 200 ml with boiled water.
Take warm every 3–4 hours: for adults and children aged 14 years and older – 1–3 tablespoons; for children aged 10–14 years – 1 tablespoon; for children aged 7–10 years – 1 dessert spoon; for children aged 3–7 years – 1 teaspoon. Shake the infusion before use.
Place 2 filter packets into a glass or enameled container, pour 200 ml (1 cup) of boiling water, cover and let steep for 15 minutes. Take warm every 3–4 hours: for adults and children aged 14 years and older – 2–6 tablespoons; for children aged 10–14 years – 2 tablespoons; for children aged 7–10 years – 2 dessert spoons; for children aged 3–7 years – 2 teaspoons. Shake the infusion before use.
The duration of treatment is determined individually by a physician.

The preparation may be used in children aged 3 years and older only as prescribed by a physician.

Side effects.
Allergic reactions are possible (including redness, rash, rhinitis).
Shelf life. 3 years.
Do not use after the expiry date stated on the packaging.
Storage conditions.
Store in the original packaging at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C, in a place inaccessible to children. Prepared infusion should be stored at a temperature between 8 °C and 15 °C for no more than 2 days.
