INSTRUCTIONS FOR MEDICAL USE OF THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT ICHTHYOL (Ichthyol)

Composition:

Active substance: ichthiol;

1 g of ointment contains ichthiol 100 mg;

Excipients: polyethylene glycol 400, polyethylene glycol 1500.

Pharmaceutical form. Ointment.

Main physicochemical properties: ointment of dark brown color with the odor of ichthiol.

Pharmacological Properties.

Pharmacodynamics.

The pharmacological properties of the ointment are determined by the action of the biologically active substances of ichthammol. Ichthammol ointment has antimicrobial (bactericidal and bacteriostatic), anti-inflammatory, and local analgesic effects.

Pharmacokinetics.

When applied topically, the ointment is practically not absorbed into the systemic circulation and does not exhibit resorptive effects.

Clinical characteristics.

Indications.

Burns, eczema, erysipelas, neuralgias, arthritis.

Contraindications.

Hypersensitivity to the components of the ointment.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interactions.

When used simultaneously with other topical agents, new compounds with unpredictable effects may form. Therefore, the medicinal product should not be used concurrently with other topical agents.

Incompatible with solutions of iodides, alkaloids, and heavy metal salts.

Special precautions for use.

Avoid contact of the ointment with mucous membranes. Hands should be thoroughly washed after application to prevent accidental transfer of residual ointment to the eyes, nose, mouth, or mucous membranes.

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

The safety and clinical efficacy of the medicinal product during pregnancy or breastfeeding have not been studied. Breastfeeding women should avoid contact of the ointment with nipples.

Ability to affect reaction rate when driving or operating machinery.

There are no data on the effect of the medicinal product on the ability to drive or operate machinery.

Dosage and Administration.

Apply externally. Apply the ointment in a thin layer to affected skin areas 2–3 times daily, leaving it open or covering with a dressing. The duration of treatment depends on the course of the disease and the therapeutic response.

For the treatment of suppurative inflammation, complicated forms of burns, arthritis, neuralgia, and eczema, Ichthammol ointment is used as part of comprehensive therapy.

The patient should consult a physician if symptoms persist during treatment or if adverse reactions not listed in the product's instructions for medical use occur.

Children.

There is no data available on use in children.

Overdose.

No cases of overdose have been reported.

Side effects.

Allergic reactions, including skin rashes, itching, burning, redness of the skin, especially at the beginning of treatment and during prolonged use. If skin irritation or other reactions occur, discontinue use of the ointment.

Shelf life.

2 years.

Do not use after the expiry date stated on the packaging.

Store in the original packaging at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C.
