INSTRUCTIONS FOR MEDICAL USE OF THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT HAWTHORN FRUITS (CRATAEGIFRUCTUS)

Composition:

Active substance: hawthorn fruits (Crataegifructus).

One pack contains 75 g of hawthorn fruits (Crataegifructus);

One pack contains 100 g of hawthorn fruits (Crataegifructus);

One pack contains 140 g of hawthorn fruits (Crataegifructus);

One filter bag contains 4.0 g of hawthorn fruits (Crataegifructus).

Pharmaceutical form. Fruits.

Main physicochemical properties: whole or crushed fruits ranging in color from yellow-orange and reddish-brown to dark brown or black, sometimes with a whitish coating.

Pharmacotherapeutic group. Cardiology preparations. ATC code C01EB04.

Pharmacological properties.

Pharmacodynamics.

Biologically active substances of the fruits exert cardiotonic, spasmolytic, hypotensive, sedative, and desensitizing effects; enhance blood supply in the coronary vessels of the heart and in cerebral vessels, increase myocardial sensitivity to cardiac glycosides, enhance myocardial contractions and reduce its excitability, produce a calming effect, normalize arterial pressure, and promote reduction of blood cholesterol levels.

Clinical characteristics.

Indications. Functional disorders of cardiac activity, angioneuroses, and also as an adjunct to basic antiarrhythmic therapy for mild forms of atrial fibrillation and paroxysmal tachycardia.

Contraindications. Marked arterial hypotension and bradycardia. Hypersensitivity to the biologically active substances of the drug.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interactions. May enhance the effects of sedatives, hypnotics, antihypertensive and antiarrhythmic agents, and cardiac glycosides.

Special precautions for use.

Safety precautions. Blood pressure monitoring is required during treatment with this medicinal product. Consultation with a physician is necessary in case of prolonged use.

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Do not use.

Ability to affect reaction rate when driving or operating machinery. During treatment with this medicinal product, driving vehicles and performing other tasks requiring high attention, quick mental and motor reactions should be avoided.

Method of Administration and Dosage.

Place 1 tablespoon of uncrushed or 2 dessert spoons of crushed fruits into an enameled container, pour 200 mL of hot boiled water, cover with a lid, and steep on a boiling water bath for 30 minutes. Cool at room temperature for 10 minutes, strain, squeeze the residue into the strained decoction. Adjust the volume of the decoction to 200 mL with boiled water. Take warm, 3 times daily, 30 minutes before meals:
adults – ⅓ cup, children aged 14 years and older – ¼ cup.

Shake the decoction well before use.

Store the prepared decoction at 8–15°C for no more than 2 days.

Place 1 filter bag into a glass or enameled container, pour 100 mL of boiling water, cover, and let steep for 15 minutes. Take warm, 3 times daily, 30 minutes before meals:
adults and children aged 14 years and older – 100 mL.

Store the prepared infusion at 8–15°C for no more than 2 days.

The duration of treatment is determined individually by a physician.

Children. The medication should be used in children aged 14 years and older only as prescribed by a physician.

**Overdose. ** Prolonged use in high doses may cause drowsiness, decreased arterial pressure, and bradycardia. In case of signs of overdose, discontinue the medication and administer symptomatic and supportive therapy (according to the patient's clinical condition).

Side effects.

Allergic reactions (including hyperemia, rash, itching, skin swelling); drowsiness, decreased heart rate.

Shelf life. 2 years.

Do not use after the expiry date stated on the packaging.

Storage conditions. Store in the original packaging at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C, in a place inaccessible to children.

Packaging. 75 g, or 100 g, or 140 g in cartons with an inner pouch;

4.0 g in filter bags, pack of 20 in a carton or in a carton with an inner pouch.
