Pharmacological properties.

Pharmacodynamics.

Soluble furagin has a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms, including strains of pathogenic staphylococci and other microorganisms resistant to antibiotics and other chemotherapeutic agents.

Compared to antibiotics and sulfonamides, resistance to soluble furagin develops slowly and to a minor extent.

Nitrofurans, including soluble furagin, inhibit the enzyme systems of microorganisms and also slow down other biochemical processes in microbial cells, leading to destruction of the bacterial cell wall or cytoplasmic membrane. Nitrofurans improve leukopoiesis, enhance the ability of leukocytes to phagocytize, and promote the granulation process. Soluble furagin is effective in the treatment of all types of purulent infections (including external ones). When applied to the skin or mucous membranes, it does not cause irritation or pain sensations.

Pharmacokinetics.

Not studied.
