Pharmacological properties.

Pharmacodynamics.

The medicinal product exerts an antimicrobial effect against streptococci and other microorganisms. Streptocide disrupts the microbial cell's assimilation of its growth factors—folic acid and related substances containing para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA). Due to the structural similarity between PABA and sulfanilamide, the latter acts as a competitive antagonist of the acid at the level of microbial biochemical systems.

Pharmacokinetics.

Pharmacokinetics has not been determined.

Clinical characteristics.

Ulcers, burns, fissures, wounds, pyodermas, skin impetigo, purulent-inflammatory skin conditions not accompanied by pronounced exudation.

Precautionary measures.

If an allergic reaction occurs at the site of ointment application, the use of the medicinal product should be discontinued. Premature discontinuation of treatment with the medicinal product may lead to the development of sulfonamide-resistant microorganisms.
