INSTRUCTIONS FOR MEDICAL USE OF THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT SULPHUR OINTMENT SIMPLE

Composition:

Active substance: 1 g of ointment contains 0.333 g of sulphur;

Excipients: white soft paraffin, purified water, emulsifier T-2.

Pharmaceutical form. Ointment.

Main physicochemical properties: ointment of yellow or light-yellow color, odorless. The ointment should be homogeneous in appearance.

Pharmacotherapeutic group. Preparations for the treatment of acne. Preparations containing sulphur.

Pharmacological properties.

Pharmacodynamics. The medicinal product exerts antimicrobial and antiparasitic effects. When sulfur interacts with organic substances, sulfides and pentathionic acid are formed, which have antiseptic properties.

Pharmacokinetics. When simple sulfur ointment is applied topically, sulfur and petroleum jelly contained in its composition are practically not absorbed into the systemic circulation.

Clinical characteristics.

Indications.

In combination therapy of skin diseases – seborrhea, sycosis, psoriasis, mycosis, scabies.

Contraindications.

Hypersensitivity to the drug. Children under 3 years of age.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interactions.

Interaction of the ointment with oxidizing agents (hydrogen peroxide solution, potassium permanganate) may lead to chemical burns. When used simultaneously with topical preparations, new compounds with unpredictable effects may be formed.

Special precautions for use.

Avoid contact of the ointment with mucous membranes and eyes. Hands should be thoroughly washed after application of the ointment.

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

The safety and clinical efficacy of the use of the drug during pregnancy or breastfeeding have not been studied; therefore, the ointment should be used only when the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus or infant.

Ability to influence reaction rate while driving or operating machinery.

The use of the ointment does not affect the ability to drive or operate machinery.

Method of Administration and Dosage

The medicinal product is intended for topical use.

For adults and children aged 3 years and older, apply the ointment to affected areas of the skin 2–3 times daily.

When treating scabies, the treatment regimen and requirements for maintaining personal hygiene are determined individually.

The duration of treatment depends on the therapeutic response and the drug's tolerability.

The patient should consult a physician if symptoms of the disease do not resolve during treatment or if adverse reactions not listed in the instructions for medical use occur.

Children.

The product is contraindicated in children under 3 years of age. For treatment of children aged 3 to 12 years, the ointment may be used as recommended by a physician following an assessment of the risk-benefit ratio.
