INSTRUCTION FOR MEDICAL USE OF THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT MOTHERWORT HERB (LEONURI HERBA)

Composition:

Active substance: motherwort herb (Leonuri herba).

One pack contains 100 g of motherwort herb (Leonuri herba).

Pharmaceutical form. Cut and pressed herb.

Main physico-chemical properties: cylindrical pieces, smooth and shiny surface, occasionally dull, marbled, uneven at the ends. Color is dark green.

Pharmacotherapeutic group. Sedatives and hypnotics. ATC code: N05CM.

Pharmacological properties.

Pharmacodynamics.

Biologically active substances of the drug exert pronounced sedative, spasmolytic, hypotensive, and cardiotoxic effects; they slow heart rate, increase the force of cardiac contractions, while simultaneously reducing the myocardium's oxygen demand.

Clinical characteristics.

Indications. Mild arterial hypertension; excessive nervous excitability; neuroses and neurosis-like conditions (as part of complex therapy).

Contraindications. Hypersensitivity to the biologically active substances of the drug. Arterial hypotension, bradycardia.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions. When used concomitantly, may enhance the effects of ethanol, sedatives or hypnotics, cardiac glycosides, analgesics, and antihypertensive drugs.

Special precautions.

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Should be used after consulting a physician, who must assess the benefit-risk ratio for the fetus/child.

Ability to affect reaction speed when driving vehicles or operating machinery.

The drug should be used with caution when driving vehicles or operating other machinery due to the possible occurrence of drowsiness and dizziness.

Dosage and Administration.

Place 1 tablespoon of cut and pressed herb into an enameled container, pour 200 mL of hot boiled water, cover with a lid, and steep in a water bath for 15 minutes. Cool at room temperature for 45 minutes, strain, and squeeze the residue into the strained infusion. Adjust the volume of the infusion to 200 mL with boiled water. Take warm, 3–4 times daily, 15–20 minutes before meals: for adults and children aged 14 years and older – 1 tablespoon; for children aged 10–14 years – 1 dessert spoon; for children aged 5–10 years – 1 teaspoon. Shake the infusion before use.

Store the prepared infusion at 8–15°C for no more than 2 days.

The duration of treatment is determined individually by a physician.

Children.

The drug may be used in children aged 5 years and older, as prescribed by a physician.

Overdose. In case of overdose, symptoms may include increased fatigue, drowsiness, dizziness, and decreased arterial blood pressure. Treatment is symptomatic.

Side effects.

Possible allergic reactions (including hyperemia, rash, itching, skin swelling), gastrointestinal disturbances, increased fatigue, drowsiness, dizziness.

Shelf life. 3 years.

Do not use after the expiry date stated on the package.

Storage conditions.

Store in the original packaging at a temperature not exceeding 30 ºC, in a place inaccessible to children.
