I N S T R U C T I O N for medical use of the medicinal product KIDNEY TEA (ORTHOSIPHONIS STAMINEI FOLIA)
Composition:
Active substance: orthosiphon stamineus leaf (Orthosiphonis staminei folia);
1 pack contains: orthosiphon stamineus leaf (Orthosiphonis staminei folia) 50 g;
1 tea filter bag contains: orthosiphon stamineus leaf (Orthosiphonis staminei folia) 1.5 g.
Pharmaceutical form. Leaf.
Main physicochemical properties: fragments of leaves and stems of various shapes, green, greyish-green, greenish-brown, violet-brown or purple-brown in color, with specks of yellowish-white color.
Pharmacotherapeutic group. Herbal medicinal products with diuretic effect. ATC code C03BX.
Pharmacological properties.
Pharmacodynamics.
The biologically active substances of the leaves exert diuretic, spasmolytic, and choleretic effects; they increase gastric juice secretion, raise the content of free hydrochloric acid in it, and promote the excretion of urea, uric acid, and chlorides from the body.
Clinical characteristics.
Indications.
Acute and chronic kidney diseases, cholecystitis; edema caused by impaired kidney function or heart failure (as part of complex therapy).
Contraindications.
Hypersensitivity to the active substances of the drug; hyperacid gastritis, peptic ulcer disease.
Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction. Unknown. If simultaneous use with any other medicinal products is required, consult a physician.
Special precautions.
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. On a physician's recommendation, when the benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus/child.
Ability to affect reaction speed when driving vehicles or operating machinery. No effect.
Method of Administration and Dosage.
Place 1 dessert spoon of the leaves into an enameled container, pour 200 ml of hot boiled water, cover with a lid, and steep in a boiling water bath for 15 minutes. Cool at room temperature for 45 minutes, strain, squeeze the residue, and add the expressed liquid to the strained infusion. Adjust the volume of the infusion to 200 ml with boiled water. Take warm, twice daily, 20–30 minutes before meals: for adults and children aged 14 years and older – ½ cup; for children aged 12–14 years – ⅓ cup; for children aged 7–12 years – 1 tablespoon; for children aged 3–7 years – 1 dessert spoon. For cholecystitis, administer after meals. Shake the infusion before use.
Place 2 filter bags into a glass or enameled container, pour 200 ml of boiling water, cover, and let steep for 15 minutes. Take warm, twice daily, 20–30 minutes before meals: for adults and children aged 14 years and older – ½ cup; for children aged 12–14 years – ⅓ cup; for children aged 7–12 years – 1 tablespoon; for children aged 3–7 years – 1 dessert spoon. For cholecystitis, administer after meals.
Store the prepared aqueous extract at a temperature of 8–15 °C for no more than 2 days.
The duration of treatment is determined individually by a physician for each patient.
Children. The preparation may be used in children aged 3 years and older.
Overdose. In case of overdose, pain in the area of the kidneys, liver, or stomach may occur.
Side effects.
Allergic reactions (including hyperemia, rash, itching, skin swelling). If any adverse reactions occur, discontinue use of the product and consult a physician.
Shelf life. 4 years.
Do not use after the expiry date stated on the packaging.
Storage conditions. Store in the original packaging at a temperature not exceeding 30 ºC, in a place inaccessible to children.
Packaging. 50 g in packs with an inner pouch; 1.5 g in tea bags, 20 tea bags per pack or in a pack with an inner pouch.
