I N S T R U C T I O N for medical use of the medicinal product MELISSA HERB (Melissae herba)
Composition:
Active substance: Melissa herb.
Pharmaceutical form. Herb.
Main physico-chemical properties:
Crushed raw material: fragments of stems, leaves with fragments of flowers, individual flowers or without them. Color of stems – green, leaves – from light or grayish-green to dark green, corolla – white, rarely pink or yellow;
Coarse powder: fragments of stems, leaves with fragments of flowers or without them, from light or grayish-green to dark green in color, with white, rarely pink or yellow specks, or without them.
Pharmacotherapeutic group. Sedatives and hypnotics. ATC code N05CM.
Clinical characteristics.
Indications. As part of complex treatment for general nervous excitement (increased emotional activity, excitability, irritability), insomnia, vegetative-vascular dystonia, stress-induced changes in blood pressure.
Contraindications.
Hypersensitivity to the drug. Arterial hypotension.
Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction. Concurrent use may enhance the effects of other sedative and hypnotic agents.
If simultaneous use of any other medicinal products is required, consult a physician.
Special precautions for use.
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. There is no information available on the experience of using the drug during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Ability to affect reaction rate when driving or operating machinery. Use with caution in individuals who drive or operate machinery.
Method of administration and dosage.
Before starting treatment, consult a physician.
Place 1 tablespoon of the herb into an enameled container, add 200 mL of hot boiled water, cover with a lid, and heat on a boiling water bath for 15 minutes. Allow to steep at room temperature for 45 minutes, then strain and squeeze the residue. Add boiled water to the strained infusion to bring the total volume to 200 mL. Adults should take warm, ⅓ cup 3 times daily, 15–20 minutes before meals. For children:
- 3–5 years: 1 teaspoon,
- 5–7 years: 1 dessert spoon,
- 7–12 years: 1 tablespoon,
- 12–14 years: 2 tablespoons,
- 14 years and older: ¼ cup,
all 3 times daily, 15–20 minutes before meals. Before use, it is recommended to shake the infusion.
Place 2 filter packets into a glass or enameled container, pour 200 mL of boiling water, cover, and let steep for 15 minutes. Adults should take warm, ½ cup 3–4 times daily, 15–20 minutes before meals. For children:
- 3–5 years: 1 dessert spoon,
- 5–7 years: 1 tablespoon,
- 7–12 years: 2 tablespoons,
- 12–14 years: ¼ cup,
- 14 years and older: ⅓ cup,
3 times daily, 15–20 minutes before meals.
The prepared aqueous extract should be stored in the refrigerator (at 2–8°C) for no more than 2 days.
The duration of treatment is determined individually by a physician.
Children. The product is intended for use in children aged 3 years and older.
Overdose. In case of overdose, dizziness, lethargy, and decreased attention concentration may occur.
Treatment: discontinue use of the product and consult a physician.
Side effects.
Allergic reactions are possible (including hyperemia, rash, itching, and skin swelling). If adverse reactions occur, discontinue use of the product and consult a physician.
Shelf life. 3 years.
Do not use after the expiry date stated on the package.
Storage conditions. Store at a temperature not exceeding 30 ºC.
Packaging.
Crushed raw material: 50 g in packs with an inner pouch.
Coarse powder: 1.5 g in filter bags, pack of 20.
