Pharmacological properties.
Pharmacodynamics.
Flaxseed contains fatty oil composed of glycerides of linolenic, linoleic, oleic, palmitic, and stearic acids, as well as mucilage, carbohydrates, the glycoside linamarin, organic acids, enzymes, and vitamin A. This complex of biologically active substances exerts a demulcent, anti-inflammatory, and mild laxative effect, coating the mucous membranes of the gastrointestinal tract with a thin layer and preventing their irritation. The mucilage layer derived from flaxseed persists for a prolonged period, providing protective action during inflammation. The fatty oil present in flaxseed produces a softening and anti-inflammatory effect and enhances tissue regeneration.
