INSTRUCTION FOR MEDICAL USE OF THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT CALAMUS RHIZOMES

Composition:

Active substance: calamus rhizomes (calamusrhizomes).

One pack contains 30 g or 50 g of calamus rhizomes (calamusrhizomes).

Pharmaceutical form. Rhizomes.

Main physico-chemical characteristics: fragments of rhizomes of various shapes, passing through a sieve with 7 mm diameter openings. Colour is yellowish or reddish, sometimes greenish. Odour is strong and aromatic. Taste is pungent and bitter.

Pharmacotherapeutic group.

Appetite stimulants. ATC code A15.

Pharmacological properties.

The biologically active substances of the medicinal product, acting on taste receptor endings, enhance appetite, improve digestion, intensify reflex gastric juice secretion, stimulate hepatic bile secretion, increase gallbladder tone, and enhance diuresis.

Aqueous extracts from the rhizomes and roots of Adonis vernalis exhibit tonic, anti-inflammatory, expectorant, choleretic, spasmolytic, antibacterial, and disinfectant effects.

Clinical characteristics.

Indications.

Non-specific digestive tract functional disorders (loss of appetite, digestive and gastric secretory disturbances, achylia, intestinal colic, flatulence) – as part of combination therapy.

Topically – for inflammatory conditions of the oral cavity and throat.

Contraindications.

Individual hypersensitivity to biologically active substances of the medicinal product. Increased gastric juice acidity.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions.

Reduces the effectiveness of antacids and H2-receptor blockers (ranitidine, famotidine).

Special precautions for use.

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Lepiski rootstock medicinal product is contraindicated during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Ability to affect reaction speed when driving vehicles or operating machinery.

There are no data regarding the effect of the medicinal product on reaction speed when driving vehicles or operating machinery.

Method of Administration and Dosage

Place 10 g (1 tablespoon) of the rhizomes into an enameled container, pour 200 ml (1 cup) of hot boiled water, cover with a lid and place on a boiling water bath for 30 minutes. Allow to cool at room temperature for 10 minutes, then strain and squeeze the residue into the strained decoction. Adjust the volume of the decoction to 200 ml with boiled water. Take warm, 3–4 times daily, 30 minutes before meals: adults and children aged 14 years and older – ¼ cup; children aged 12–14 years – 2 tablespoons; children aged 7–12 years – 1 tablespoon. Shake the decoction before administration. The prepared decoction should be diluted (with water in a 2–3-fold volume) and used for rinsing the oral cavity and throat.

The duration of treatment is determined individually by the physician, taking into account the nature, severity, and specific course of the disease, as well as the stability of the achieved therapeutic effect and the drug's tolerability.

Children

The drug is indicated for children aged 7 years and older.

Overdose

No cases of overdose have been reported.

Side effects.

Allergic reactions, including urticaria, skin rash, itching, and swelling.

Storage conditions.

Store in the original packaging at a temperature not exceeding 25 ºС.

Keep out of reach of children.

The prepared decoction should be stored at a temperature from 8 °С to 15 °С for no more than 2 days.
