INSTRUCTION FOR MEDICAL USE OF THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT HAWTHORN TINCTURE (CRATAEGI TINCTURA)
Composition:
Active substance: tincture of crushed hawthorn fruits (Crataegi fructus) (1:10) (extraction solvent – 70% ethanol);
1 bottle contains tincture of crushed hawthorn fruits (Crataegi fructus) (1:10) (extraction solvent – 70% ethanol) 25 ml or 100 ml.
Pharmaceutical form. Tincture.
Main physicochemical properties: clear liquid ranging in color from reddish-yellow to dark red. Sediment may form during storage.
Pharmacotherapeutic group. Agents used in cardiology. ATC code C01EB04.
Pharmacological Properties.
Pharmacodynamics. Biologically active substances contained in hawthorn fruits (flavonoids, choline, acetylcholine, tannins, phytosterols, triterpenic acids) enhance circulation in the coronary vessels and cerebral vessels, increase myocardial sensitivity to cardiac glycosides, and reduce myocardial excitability, resulting in a moderate enhancement of cardiac muscle contractions.
Pharmacokinetics. The drug is well absorbed when taken orally. The effect begins within 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Clinical characteristics.
Indications.
Functional disorders of the cardiovascular system (neurocirculatory dystonia), as well as an auxiliary medicinal agent in mild forms of cardiac arrhythmias (atrial fibrillation, paroxysmal tachycardia).
Contraindications.
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug. Marked arterial hypotension and bradycardia.
Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction.
The drug potentiates the effect of cardiac glycosides and antiarrhythmic agents. Concomitant use with alkaloid salts is not recommended due to the possibility of forming negative complexes. The drug should not be used together with cisapride. Hawthorn tincture may enhance the effect of hypnotics, sedatives, and antihypertensive agents.
Special precautions for use.
The drug is not recommended to be taken during meals to avoid interaction with food components.
The medicinal product is a traditional herbal medicinal product for use according to indications supported by long-term use.
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Contraindicated.
Ability to influence reaction speed when driving or operating machinery.
During treatment with this drug, driving vehicles or operating machinery should be avoided.
Method of Administration and Dosage
Take orally before meals. The recommended dose for adults is 20 drops of the tincture three times a day. For children aged 12 years and older, the dose is calculated as 1 drop per year of age, administered three times daily, until a stable therapeutic effect is achieved. The duration of treatment is determined individually by a physician.
The patient should consult a doctor if symptoms of the disease do not resolve during treatment or if adverse reactions not listed in the instructions occur.
Children. The use of the drug is contraindicated in children under 12 years of age.
Overdose.
Symptoms: decreased blood pressure, drowsiness, bradycardia.
Treatment: discontinue the drug. Symptomatic therapy.
Adverse reactions.
From the nervous system: drowsiness.
From the cardiovascular system: slowing of heart rate.
From the immune system: allergic reactions (including hyperemia, rash, itching, skin swelling) may occur in case of individual hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

Store in the original packaging at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C.
