INSTRUCTIONS FOR MEDICAL USE OF THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT HAWTHORN TINCTURE

Composition:

Active substance:
hawthorn fruit tincture (Crataegi fructus);

1 bottle contains hawthorn fruit tincture (Crataegi fructus) (1 : 10) (extractant – 70% ethanol) 50 ml or 100 ml.

Pharmaceutical form.
Oral tincture.

Main physicochemical characteristics:
clear, yellowish-brown liquid. Sediment may form during storage.

Pharmacological properties.

Pharmacodynamics.

Biologically active substances contained in hawthorn fruits enhance blood circulation in the coronary vessels of the heart and in cerebral vessels, increase myocardial sensitivity to cardiac glycosides, partially enhance cardiac muscle contractions, and reduce its excitability. The drug is well absorbed when taken orally. The effect occurs within 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Clinical characteristics.

Indications.

Functional disorders of the cardiovascular system activity (including neurocirculatory dystonia), mild forms of cardiac arrhythmias (atrial fibrillation, paroxysmal tachycardia) – as an auxiliary medicinal agent.

Contraindications.

Marked arterial hypotension, bradycardia, increased sensitivity to biologically active substances contained in the medicinal plant.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions.

Hawthorn tincture may potentiate the effect of cardiac glycosides and antiarrhythmic agents. Concomitant use with alkaloid salts is not recommended due to the possibility of forming negative complexes. The product should not be used together with cisapride. May enhance the effect of sedatives, hypnotics, and antihypertensive agents.

Special precautions for use.

It is not recommended to take the medication during meals to avoid interaction with food components.

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Contraindicated.

Ability to affect reaction speed when driving or operating machinery.

The medication contains ethanol and may cause drowsiness; therefore, driving or operating potentially hazardous machinery should be avoided during treatment with this medication.

Method of Administration and Dosage.

Take orally before meals. Adults are recommended to take 20 drops of the tincture 3 times a day. Children aged 12 years and older should take 1 drop per year of life, 3 times a day, until a stable therapeutic effect is achieved.

The duration of treatment is determined individually by a physician.

Children.

The use of the drug is contraindicated in children under 12 years of age.

Overdose.

Symptoms:
reduced arterial blood pressure, drowsiness, bradycardia.

Treatment:
discontinuation of the drug. Symptomatic therapy.

Side effects.

Drowsiness, significant slowing of heart rate, allergic reactions (including hyperemia, rash, itching, skin swelling).

If any adverse reactions occur, discontinue use of the medication and consult a physician.

Expiry date.

2 years.

Do not use the medication after the expiry date stated on the packaging.

Storage conditions.

Store in the original packaging, out of reach of children, at a temperature not exceeding 25 ºC. Sedimentation may occur during storage.
