INSTRUCTION FOR MEDICAL USE OF THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT GLODU TINCTURE
Composition:
Active substance: Crataegus fruit tincture (Fructus Crataegi);
1 bottle contains Crataegus fruit tincture (Fructus Crataegi) (1:10) (extraction solvent – 70% ethanol) 25 ml, 40 ml or 100 ml;
Excipients: none
Pharmaceutical form. Tincture.
Main physicochemical properties: clear yellowish-brown liquid; sediment formation during storage is permissible.
Pharmacotherapeutic group. Medicinal products used in cardiology. ATC code C01EB04.
Pharmacological properties.
Pharmacodynamics.
Biologically active substances contained in hawthorn fruits enhance circulation in the coronary vessels and cerebral vessels, increase myocardial sensitivity to cardiac glycosides and reduce its excitability, resulting in a certain enhancement of myocardial contractions.
Pharmacokinetics. The drug is well absorbed after oral administration. The effect occurs within 0.5 – 1 hour.
Clinical characteristics.
Indications.
Functional disorders of the cardiovascular system activity (neurocirculatory dystonia), as well as an auxiliary medicinal agent in mild forms of cardiac rhythm disturbances (atrial fibrillation, paroxysmal tachycardia).
Contraindications.
Individual hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, pronounced arterial hypotension and bradycardia.
Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions.
The drug enhances the effects of cardiac glycosides and may enhance the action of sedatives, hypnotics, and antihypertensive agents. Concomitant use with alkaloid salts is not recommended due to the possibility of forming undesirable complexes. The drug should not be used together with third-generation antiarrhythmic agents or with cisapride.
Special precautions for use.
The medicine is not recommended to be taken during meals to avoid interaction with food components.
Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Since the medicine contains ethanol, the tincture is contraindicated in women during pregnancy or breastfeeding. If it is necessary to use the medicine, breastfeeding should be discontinued.
Ability to influence reaction rate while driving or operating machinery.
The medicine contains alcohol! The medicine affects reaction speed while driving or operating machinery, as it may cause drowsiness. The sedative effect develops gradually over three weeks.
Method of Administration and Dosage.
Take hawthorn tincture orally before meals. Unless otherwise prescribed by a physician, the recommended dose for adults is 20 drops of the tincture 3 times daily. For children aged 12 years and older, the dose is calculated as 1 drop per year of life, taken 3 times daily, until a stable therapeutic effect is achieved (normalization of arterial pressure, slowing of heart rate). The duration of treatment is determined individually.
Children. The drug is used in children aged 12 years and older.
Overdose.
Overdose may lead to reduced arterial pressure. With a significant overdose, drowsiness and bradycardia may occur, requiring discontinuation of the drug and implementation of symptomatic therapy.
Side effects
The product is generally well tolerated; however, allergic reactions (including hyperemia, rash, itching, skin swelling) may occur in some patients with individual hypersensitivity to the components of the product. Rarely observed are drowsiness and significant slowing of heart rate.
Shelf life. 4 years. Do not use after the expiry date stated on the packaging.
Storage conditions.
Store in original packaging at a temperature not exceeding 25 ˚C. Keep out of reach of children.
