INSTRUCTIONS FOR MEDICAL USE OF THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT BIRD'S KNOTWEED HERB (POLYGONI AVICULARIS HERBA)

Composition:

Active substance: Bird's knotweed herb (Polygoni Avicularis Herba);

1 pack contains Bird's knotweed herb (Polygoni Avicularis Herba) – 50 g; 1 filter bag contains Bird's knotweed herb (Polygoni Avicularis Herba) – 1.5 g.

Main physico-chemical properties:

Ground material: fragments of stems, leaves, and flowers of various shapes, passing through a sieve with 7 mm diameter openings. Grayish-green in color. Slight odor. Slightly astringent taste.

Coarse powder: fragments of stems, leaves, and flowers of various shapes, passing through a sieve with 2 mm diameter openings. Grayish-green in color. Slight odor. Slightly astringent taste.

Pharmacological properties.

Pharmacodynamics.

Biologically active substances of the herb prevent the formation and promote the elimination of urinary calculi in urolithiasis, enhance diuresis, increase excretion of excess sodium and chloride ions with urine, enhance glomerular filtration and reduce tubular reabsorption in the kidneys, and decrease the permeability of blood vessel walls.

Clinical characteristics.

Indications.

Initial stages of urolithiasis; uric acid diathesis; postoperative period after removal of urinary stones; chronic renal failure; chronic glomerulonephritis, pyelonephritis, bladder inflammation in remission stage (as part of complex therapy).

Contraindications.

Thrombophlebitis; acute inflammatory diseases of kidneys and urinary bladder; changes in blood rheological properties; presence of stones larger than 6 mm in the urinary tract. Hypersensitivity to biologically active components of the drug.

Special precautions.

It is recommended to take the infusion through a straw to avoid contact with teeth
(possible enamel dissolution and tooth damage).

Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions. Do not use together with anticoagulants.

Method of administration and dosage.

Place 3 tablespoons of the herb into an enameled container, pour 200 ml of hot boiled water, cover with a lid and heat on a boiling water bath for 15 minutes. Let cool at room temperature for 45 minutes, then strain and squeeze the residue, adding the expressed liquid to the strained infusion. Adjust the volume of the infusion with boiled water to 200 ml. Shake the infusion before use.

Place 2 filter bags into a glass or enameled container, pour 200 ml (1 cup) of boiling water, cover and let steep for 15 minutes.

Take warm, 2–3 times daily, 15–20 minutes before meals: adults—⅓–½ cup; children aged 14 years and older—¼ cup; children aged 12–14 years—2 tablespoons; children aged 7–12 years—1 tablespoon.

Treatment duration—up to 20–25 days. Repeat courses (no more than 4 per year) should be conducted after a 10–12 day break (following consultation with a physician).

Children.

The preparation may be used in children aged 7 years and older.

Side effects.

Allergic reactions are possible (including hyperemia, rash, itching, skin swelling), renal colic. Prolonged use of the drug may lead to discoloration of tooth enamel and disruption of bone tissue structure (osteoporosis).

Shelf life. 3 years. Do not use the drug after the expiry date stated on the packaging.

Storage conditions.

Store in the original packaging at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C, in a place inaccessible to children. Prepared infusion should be stored in a cool place (8–15 °C) for no more than 2 days.
