I N S T R U C T I O N for medical use of the medicinal product THYMI SERPYLLI HERBA (Thymiserpylliherba)

Composition:

Active substance: Thymiserpylliherba (herb of thyme);

1 pack contains: Thymiserpylliherba – 40 g or 50 g;

1 filter bag contains: Thymiserpylliherba – 1.5 g.

Main physico-chemical properties:

Powdered raw material: fragments of leaves, twigs, stems, inflorescences, and individual flowers of green, greyish-green, greenish-brown, yellowish-brown, brownish-red, and bluish-violet color.

Coarse powder: fragments of leaves, twigs, stems, inflorescences, and individual flowers of green, greyish-green, greenish-brown, yellowish-brown, brownish-red, and bluish-violet color.

Pharmacological properties.

Pharmacodynamics.

Thyme herb contains essential oil, flavonoids, tannins and bitter substances, gum, triterpenic acids (ursolic and oleanolic), mineral salts. Thyme preparations exert expectorant, antibacterial, spasmolytic and analgesic effects, have a calming action on the central nervous system, and stimulate gastric juice secretion.

Clinical characteristics.

Indications.

Respiratory tract diseases (laryngitis, tracheitis, bronchitis, bronchopneumonia); gastrointestinal disorders accompanied by gastric secretory insufficiency, intestinal atony or spasms, and flatulence.

Contraindications.

Hypersensitivity to the components of the medicinal product or to other plants of the Lamiaceae family, as well as to celery and birch pollen (cross-reactivity possible). Severe liver and kidney diseases.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction. Unknown.

Special precautions for use

If symptoms persist for more than one week or worsen during treatment with the medicinal product and/or new symptoms such as dyspnea, fever, or purulent sputum appear, a physician should be consulted.

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Due to insufficient data, the use of this medicinal product is not recommended during these periods.

Ability to influence reaction speed when driving or operating machinery. No effect.

Method of Administration and Dosage

Place 1 tablespoon of the herb in an enameled container, pour 200 mL of hot boiled water over it, cover with a lid, and steep in a boiling water bath for 15 minutes. Cool at room temperature for 45 minutes, then strain and squeeze the residue, adding the expressed liquid back to the strained infusion. Adjust the final volume of the infusion to 200 mL with boiled water. Adults should take 1/3 cup of the warm infusion 3–4 times daily, 15–20 minutes before meals. For children:

  • 4–5 years: 1 dessert spoon,
  • 5–7 years: 1 tablespoon,
  • 7–12 years: 2 tablespoons,
  • 12–14 years: 1/4 cup,
  • 14 years and older: 1/3 cup,
    3 times daily, 15–20 minutes before meals.
    Before use, the infusion should be shaken.

Place 3 filter bags into a glass or enameled container, pour 200 mL of boiling water over them, cover, and let steep for 15 minutes. Adults should take 1/3 cup of the warm infusion 3–4 times daily, 15–20 minutes before meals. For children:

  • 4–5 years: 1 dessert spoon,
  • 5–7 years: 1 tablespoon,
  • 7–12 years: 2 tablespoons,
  • 12–14 years: 1/4 cup,

The prepared aqueous extract should be stored in the refrigerator (at 2–8 °C) for no more than 2 days.

The duration of treatment is determined individually by the physician for each patient.

Children. Not recommended for children under 4 years of age.

Overdose. In case of overdose, nausea, discomfort, and headache may occur. Symptomatic treatment is recommended.

Side effects.

Possible allergic reactions (hyperemia, rashes, itching, and skin swelling), gastrointestinal disorders (including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea). If adverse reactions occur, discontinue use of the product and consult a physician.

Shelf life. 2 years. Do not use after the expiry date.

Storage conditions. Store in the original packaging at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C, in a place inaccessible to children.

Packaging. 40 g or 50 g in packs with an inner pouch; 1.5 g in a tea bag, 20 tea bags per pack or in a pack with an inner pouch.
