Paraffinum liquidum
Oral and topical liquid, 1g/1g
Packaging content: 500 g
Composition:
1 g of liquid contains 1 g of liquid paraffin.
Indications:
Laxative used in constipation as directed by a physician.

Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to liquid paraffin. Abdominal pain of unknown cause and
acute inflammatory conditions of the gastrointestinal tract, e.g. appendicitis.
Children and pregnant women should not be given the medicine without
consulting a physician.
Special warnings and precautions for use:
For skin: lack of data. Orally: the medicine is used as a short-term laxative.
If symptoms worsen or laxative effect does not occur within 1–2 days, consult a physician.
Prolonged and non-compliant use of the medicine may lead to
water-electrolyte imbalance and secondary constipation. Use with particular caution in patients with chronic inflammatory conditions in the abdomen, as well as in pregnant and breastfeeding women.
Accidental aspiration of paraffin into the respiratory tract may cause
very severe pneumonia. The risk particularly concerns elderly, debilitated patients, and those taking the medicine in a lying position (choking). In elderly patients, administration should be limited to truly necessary situations, using the lowest effective doses for as short a time as possible (2–3 weeks). Due to the risk of adverse effects, duration and frequency of use should be monitored in elderly patients.
Interactions:
For skin: lack of data. Orally: the medicine used may interfere with the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, i.e. A, D, E and K, as well as concurrently administered oral medicines.
Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding:
For skin: no contraindications. Orally: consult a physician before use.
Effect on ability to drive and operate machinery:
The medicine does not affect psycho-physical performance.
Route and method of administration:

Overdose:
Administration of large doses may cause diarrhea.
Adverse effects:
For skin: not reported so far. Orally: may cause anal itching; paraffin leakage from the anus is frequently observed. Prolonged and non-compliant use of the medicine may lead to water-electrolyte imbalance and secondary constipation. Small amounts of liquid paraffin may accumulate in lymph nodes, causing inflammatory changes.
