1. What Oscillococcinum is and what it is used for

Oscillococcinum is a medicine used to relieve symptoms of influenza, colds, and flu-like infections: fever (up to 38.5°C), general malaise, muscle and joint pain.
Oscillococcinum is recommended to be taken as soon as the first symptoms of infection appear, such as: tickling sensation in the throat, feeling of fatigue, sensation of chill. During periods of increased susceptibility to colds, taking Oscillococcinum once a week may reduce the number of infections.

2. Important information before using Oscillococcinum

When not to use Oscillococcinum
Do not use Oscillococcinum if the patient is allergic to the active substance or
any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).

Warnings and precautions
If symptoms worsen or persist for more than 3 days, consult a doctor.
In case of fever above 39°C, persistent cough, shortness of breath, or other worrying symptoms, contact a doctor.

Children
Before starting to use Oscillococcinum in children under 5 years of age, consult a
doctor, pharmacist, or nurse.

Oscillococcinum and other medicines
Inform your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines the patient is currently taking or has recently taken, as well as any medicines planned for future use.

Taking Oscillococcinum with food and drink
No special requirements.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding, suspects she might be pregnant, or is planning to become pregnant, she should consult a doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.

Driving and operating machinery
Considering the composition of the product, no effect on the ability to drive or operate machinery is expected.

Oscillococcinum contains sucrose and monohydrate lactose
If the patient has an intolerance to certain sugars, consult a doctor before taking this medicine.

3. How to use Oscillococcinum

This medicine should always be used exactly as described in this patient information leaflet or as advised by your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse.
If in doubt, consult your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse.
Administer orally. Allow the contents of the container to dissolve in the mouth, holding it under the tongue.

Recommended dosage of Oscillococcinum:
Adults, adolescents, and children over 5 years of age:
Prophylaxis (preventive treatment): during periods of increased risk of infection, take 1 dose once a week.
Onset of infection: take 1 dose as early as possible; if necessary, repeat 2 to 3 times at 6-hour intervals.
Established infection: 1 dose in the morning and evening for 3 days.

Children under 5 years of age: as directed by a physician. Granules may be dissolved in a small amount of water and administered with a spoon.

Duration of use: if symptoms worsen or persist for more than 3 days, consult a doctor. For prophylactic use, do not use the medicine for longer than 6 months.

Overdose of Oscillococcinum: consult a doctor or pharmacist.
Missed dose of Oscillococcinum: do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.

4. Possible adverse reactions

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause adverse reactions, although not everybody will experience them.

5. How to store Oscillococcinum

No special storage instructions are required.
Keep the medicine out of sight and reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the packaging.
The expiry date refers to the last day of the stated month.
Medicines must not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. This will help protect the environment.

What Oscillococcinum contains

  • The active substance is: Anas barbariae hepatis et cordis extractum 200K - 0.01 ml per 1g of granules.
  • The other components are: sucrose, lactose monohydrate.
