1. What Zolmitriptan Aurobindo Pharma Italia is and what it is used for
Zolmitriptan Aurobindo Pharma Italia contains the active substance zolmitriptan and belongs to a group of medicines called triptans.
Zolmitriptan Aurobindo Pharma Italia is used to treat migraine headache.
Migraine symptoms may be caused by the widening of blood vessels in the head. Zolmitriptan Aurobindo Pharma Italia is thought to reduce this widening of blood vessels, thereby helping to relieve headache and other symptoms of a migraine attack, such as discomfort (nausea or vomiting) and sensitivity to light and sound.
Zolmitriptan Aurobindo Pharma Italia works only once a migraine attack has started. It does not help to prevent an attack.
2. What you need to know before taking Zolmitriptan Aurobindo Pharma Italia
Do not take Zolmitriptan Aurobindo Pharma Italia
- If you are allergic to zolmitriptan or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6)
- If you have high blood pressure
- If you have had heart problems, including heart attack, angina (chest pain caused by physical activity or exertion), Prinzmetal's angina (chest pain occurring at rest), or have experienced heart-related symptoms such as shortness of breath or chest tightness
- If you have had a stroke or transient stroke-like symptoms (transient ischemic attack or TIA)
- If you have severe kidney problems
- If you are simultaneously taking certain other medicines for migraine (e.g. ergotamine or ergot derivatives such as dihydroergotamine and methysergide) or other triptan migraine medicines. For further information, see the next section: “Other medicines and Zolmitriptan Aurobindo Pharma Italia”. If you are unsure whether any of these conditions apply to you, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Zolmitriptan Aurobindo Pharma Italia if:
- You are at risk of developing ischemic heart disease (reduced blood flow in the heart arteries). Your risk is higher if you smoke, have high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, diabetes, or if a family member has ischemic heart disease
- You have been diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome (a type of heart rhythm abnormality)
- You have had liver problems
- You experience headaches different from your usual migraine headache
- You are taking other medicines for depression (see “Other medicines and Zolmitriptan Aurobindo Pharma Italia” later in this section).
When Zolmitriptan Aurobindo Pharma Italia is taken together with other medicines of the
SSRI or SNRI type, used to treat depression, there is a risk of developing the so-called
serotonin syndrome. Symptoms may be severe and include chills, hyperactive reflexes, nausea,
fever, sweating, delirium, mental confusion, and coma. If you are taking this combination of
medicines, your doctor must monitor you closely, especially at the beginning of treatment, when
the dosage needs to be increased, or when another serotoninergic medicine is added. If you
experience any of these symptoms, contact your doctor as soon as possible.
If you go to hospital, inform the medical staff that you are taking Zolmitriptan Aurobindo Pharma Italia.
Children and adolescents
The use of Zolmitriptan Aurobindo Pharma Italia is not recommended in individuals under 18 years of age.
Elderly patients
The use of Zolmitriptan Aurobindo Pharma Italia is not recommended in individuals over 65 years of age.

cause daily headaches or worsen migraine headaches. If you think this applies to you, discuss it with your doctor.
To resolve the problem, you may need to stop taking Zolmitriptan Aurobindo Pharma Italia.
